Like I said, I seem to recall it went to America.  This would have been many years (20+) ago.  But of course, spotted by 'Oxford Spectator' - so presumably it came back/never went?

It in Japan, hence 'Japanese collector'

  2. 17 minutes ago, Tony Lawrence said:

Just seen going clockwise on the M25 near Cobham services, two Renault FT17 first war tanks on a low loader.

Those belong to the Weald Foundation. They are heading off to Bovington to be displayed at Tankfest.

  3. So i stumbled across a photo (which i have linked below this comment)

    Chieftain Tank, "barn find"

Which shows an aged Chieftain in Berlin camouflage. The photo was taken in 2015 at what appears to be a farm in Garlieston, Scotland.

According to the comments this was then apparently moved to Dumfries & Galloway.

I don't suppose anyone knows any info on its history, and if it is still there?

  4. I do not know the full history of the vehicle in question, but are you sure it was owned by IWM Duxford, a number of the vehicles displayed in the land warfare hall where/are owned by private individuals, and only loaned to the museum.

E.g. The Pz 4 Ausf. D that was displayed , was sold by its owner to the Australian artillery and armour museum and is currently being restored by C&C military.

My source of information comes from the following website http://preservedtanks.com/Profile.aspx?UniqueID=191&Select=4 as well as bits of i have read elsewhere. Which if you can read stated the tank was initially sat outside Gamecock barracks until being taken to the Imperial War Museum in London, and subsequently to Duxford (Then Wheatcroft)

I don't know how reliable said website is mind you, but this seem to be the only one that provides information as to where it has been. I am hoping some user on here could shed some light as to why the tank ended up in private collectors hands when it seemingly had never been so in the past.

  5. Sorry i could not fit the question into the above title.

How did the Wheatcroft collection go about acquiring the Alkett/Rhinemetall-Borsig - 10.5cm leFH 18/40/2 auf Geschuetzwagen III/IV from the Imperial war museum group?

From what i gather the Museum had sent it off to be restored by the Wheatcroft collection, however since that point the German SPG prototype has not been seen at the museum, instead now seemingly being owned by the Wheatcroft collection.

Could anyone shed light as to why the museum never bought it back?

  6. Now they only have to borrow the Sturmtiger from Germany and they will have the full set...

It seems like thats actually what they plan to do.

They have finally gone public about it and mentioned an interested in getting a Sturmtiger. I don't see Kubinka giving up theirs so i assume they are going after one of the ones that live in Germany.

Write up about it provided below.

With a nice clip of the Jagdpanther moving for the first time in many years (if you can view it via Facebook)

  7. So i don't know how many people are aware, but Bovington tank Museum's Vehicle Conservation Centre housed a few vehicle under wraps. I don't know who owned them, other than i heard they are owned by the imperial war museum who put them at Bovington while they were redeveloping something.

But it appears that not long ago the 11 vehicles have been moved elsewhere.

    As this video shows

So does anyone know who owns these vehicles, and where they have now gone?

  8. So the Normandy Tank museum sale is over and the result are now available online, what should be noted is that a large number of vehicle went above their guide prices. Some going for eye watering levels for what they are.

Link to the auction results page http://www.artcurial.com/en/asp/results.asp?salelist=3114+++&viewtype=all&displaytype=DescriptionImages&Display2=View+Results

total sales were valued at 3,551,700

Some of the vehicle that exceeded expectations.

  9. Bumping this up as i dont think many of you know about this one.

But Red Bull actually own a Volvo Sugga with a few modifications, it showed up to my universities freshers fair.

It seems Red Bull own a number of these Sugga's. Both here in the UK and in the US.

  10. So as i understand there are a large amount of rare military vehicles sat up at the former RAF base at Folkingham, in Lincolnshire. I have to ask.

Is the land containing these old vehicles still MOD property or is it privately owned?

Also does anyone know whether the owner/s intend to ever sell off some of these rare machines (such as the Antar's)? and, has anyone actually recovered some vehicles from the site?

    Any response would be appreciated.
