  1. I'm sure this question has been asked before but I can't find the thread. Can anyone tell me the reason for the format of post war,eg 1960's British military registration numbers? for instance two Land Rovers 20 DM 67 and 93 EL 31,I assume the DM is earlier but can anyone tell me the dates these vehicles entered service from these reg numbers?

    Thanks,

    Matt.

  2. It's sounding more and more like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs :cool2: :coffee:

Well if being grumpy means Snow White is going to move in I'm all for it:evil:

Oh******,did I just say that out loud?

  3. Have a look at this item on Ebay (warning, parental advisory):

    250280309940

I don't know which is worse, the fact someone actually bothered to list, erm, those items or the fact someone paid au$200 for them!.

It's always good to know such folks exist, makes the rest of us look fairly normal!

  4. I was looking at a listing,I think it's still on there by a guy selling several Series three FFR and GS Land Rovers "for parts only",his pictures are of complete-ish vehicles but he claims he cannot sell the entire vehicles or the chassis, does this make sense? I see no legal reason why he cannot sell a complete vehicle even if it has never been civvy registered.

  5. There will always be listings like those above on ebay, just a case of buyer beware. One thing I will say is sometimes a poor description can lead to less bids and a bargain can be had if you know exactly what you're looking for!

The listings which REALLY worry me are those for "relics" which have obviously been recently taken from battlefield graves, these are usually German and from Eastern Europe, although I have seen the effects of a WW1 USMC MIA listed from France,"recently dug up on the battlefield".....

  6. A local guy I know was clearing out his barn today and I noticed some post war British ammo boxes, these are the standard small 7.62 tins as used with the GPMG but what I hadn't seen before was the carrying cradle which takes four of the boxes. Are these unusual? all were dated 1966. He also has three 105 artillery boxes, these take 2 rounds each, dated 1965.

I'd like the 7.62 boxes with cradle but wanted to know are they common as muck before making an offer.

    Thanks,

    Matt.

  7. It could well be a primer, but the reason I say not it it's over everything, bumpers, grill, light mountings etc but the olive green is properly sprayed on the body panels only. The pink was obviously applied when the unit markings were mounted on the bumper as there is a clear outline of the two square panels.

The only exception to the above is the bonnet which was DBG followed by black applied by brush which has then had olive green sprayed over it,no sign of pink anywhere on the bonnet.

Ps I have NO intention of driving a pink LR,even if it turns out it was that colour in service!

    Matt.

  8. The paint layers on the Landy are(starting with the earliest)

    Factory Deep Bronze Green.

    Pink(very dark,almost red)

    Pink,much lighter shade.

    Olive green.

    Olive green.

Gloss brown(applied by first civvy owner)

Gloss green(applied by third civvy owner).

I will eventually be looking for a deact SLR and Sterling.

Thanks all for the replies and informaton.

    Matt.
