  1. Amen to that John. I believe the military turned down the TD5 in favor of the 300TDI as the TD5 was electronic comon rail and too difficult to service in the field.
  2. Usually with particulate filters there is a built in burn off process in the engine management system that burns off the soot. There is nothing like that in the Wolfs. Cheers Ian
  3. Hi Mike, I believe the Wolf is catalytic converter only. Cheers
  4. I will endeavor to test the boost. The truck has a catalytic converter but don't know if it also includes a DPF. Setting seals are missing from the injection pump. Cheers Ian
  5. Hi folks, I have blanked off the EGR valve and with the tightening all the boost hoses things have improved somewhat. My question now, is, is it possible to remove the intercooler without removing the radiator? I'm thinking cleaning the intercooler, but to be fair these is no visible evidence if blockage when viewed through the outlet connection. Cheers Ian
  6. Hi 7VHU, thanks for this. Inlet from air cleaner to turbo is the ribbed plastic unit and is in good condition, alas no raised air inlet. I am going to blank off the EGR and see it that has any impact. Cheers
  7. Sorry guys, I should have been more specific, the Wolf is 300TDI diesel, so there is no MAF meter or sensor. Cheers Ian
  8. Well folks, We finally managed to get a Statement of Compliance for our Wolf 90 through TUV SUD in Germany, via a local agency so we are now fully road legal. The WOlf is AWESOME! Here it is amongst friends 🙂
  9. Hi folks, So; Defender 90 Wolf. 72,000kms. Engine starts immediately and runs well. Over the week-end we did close to 700kms on highway (100kph) and off road some low range and hard pulling a stuck vehicle. All is well except when going above 33% throttle and higher rpms (engine hot) I get lots of black exhaust smoke. I have checked air filter, intercooler and turbo elbows/hoses. Also EERG valve which seems ok but I have no idea how to test the electronics. Yes quite a bit of carbon build up in the intercooler to manifold line but (in my view) not enough to cause the smoke. Air outlet on the turbo is clean and very light oil residue so indicates turbo os ok (I can hear it spool up and down when driving). I understand its not uncommon for these engines to "blow" inlet manifold gaskets, but I cannot see any evidence of that. Any pointers very much appreciated. Cheers Ian
  10. I now have new "felt" window guides to install, do I need to remove the window assembly from the door, or is it possible to replace the guides with the door in situ. EG how do I remove the old felt and replace. Cheers Ian
  11. Sorted! The dogs on the steering wheel were not engaging with the rotating cam. They are now 😊. Cheers Ian
  12. Hi Gordon, mine is 1998. Yes the dog on the bottom of the steering wheel is a simple interference fit and easily adjusted. It seems to be in the correct orientation but perhaps the steering wheel isnt bedding fully on the steering shaft. I'll keep looking. Cheers Ian
  13. Hi folks, the turn indicators on my Defender Wold 90 do not self cancel. I set the front wheels at straight ahead and pulled the steering wheel. There are 2 tongues on the underside boss of the wheel that clearly are supposed to engage with the blue plastic cam on the steering column shaft. There is an arrow on one lug of the cam and this should point to the left (eg at the indicator switch assembly. (according to the Wolf workshop manual). I have tested the cam by turning the plastic ring in both directions (and back) and all is well, cancels the switch every time! Put the wheel on and no go! I am suspecting that the wheel is no fully engaging on the splines and thus the tongues are not engaging with the cam sufficiently enough to turn the cam. Has anyone out there had this issue and if so what magical fix did you come up with? Cheers Ian J
  14. Hi Guy's the drivers rearward sliding window on my Wold 90 is jambed shut. It seems yo be free on lthe lower track, and the forward track, but not the top track. Any one out there with a similar experience please? Cheers
  15. Will do and thanks. I will let you know how I get on. Ian.
  16. B series may well be able to help, I'm keeping avenues open as the NZ inspectors are ultra fussy and pedantic so trying to cover all the angles. Thanks for looking. J Cheers Ian
  17. fv1609, any luck finding the Directive yoou refer to above?
  18. Thanks guys, appreciate any help you can offer. B Series, I will contact you via your website if I can find it. Cheers Ian
  19. Hi folks, I am trying to get my Wolf 90 through compliance for use on the road here in New Zealand. The "authorities here are asking for a "Statement of Compliance" which is a document detailing what standards/specifications the vehicle is built to. The Jaguar Land Rover people here in NZ tell me that the cannot get these for Military Vehicles, but can for civilian versions. Is this somthing folks in the UK or other countries have faced/dealt with in the past and how have you circumvented the issue? HELP???? Ian
  20. One would have to wonder if the guy has siezed the engine? Gradual loss of power then would not turn over would sure ring alarm bells for me! I guess its possible that the fuel shutoff solenoid slowly closed as battery voltage fell but I would have thought thats a long shot. Cheers Ian
  21. Hi folks, my Wolf TUL (1998) was originally FFR thus has 2 alternators. The radio equipment has all been removed, but the FFR alternator is still in place. Assuming the wiring to the FFR batteries has all been disconnected (yes I will check first) is there any value in leaving the alternator on the vehicle? The alternator belt only drives the FFR alternator so no other driven accessories would be affected. Any advise appreciated. Cheers Ian
  22. Thanks guys, appreciate your input. Cheers Ian
  23. Hi folks, greetings for a wet and cold New Zealand, hope you have had some rain and that things are getting cooler. Can anyone tell me what a Army 6524, 6 monthly service would entail on a Wolf 90 please? Many thanks Ian
  24. Too true. It used to cost us $NZ3 to the GBP, These days the rate is around $2\GBP. We love the UK and W&P has been a real highlight of our holidays there.
