  1. Welcome to the forum cb2002. My fathers first military vehicle was a Stolly. For someone completly new to the hobby it would probably not be the best choice of vehicle to start with unless you were mechanicly famliar wth it. My Dad suffered a lot of ups and downs with the Stalwart but over time he began to learn how to right those problems. Lastly i must add if you do take the plunge and get one, you would love it...while it works.

  2. Funny story about a Reo as that didn't work when a friend got his stuck in the thames at Chiswick in 1997. He was delivering bricks for a friend on a job on a bit of river where there is an island called Chiswick eyt (i think). Our friend got stuck in the mud on the river bank and couldn't get it out and so he had to leave it there. Later on the high tide came and it got fully submerged. After a few phonecalls the whole club was involved and there were several rescue attempts. The police were called aswell. In the end i think it was there for a few days and eventually got recovered by Mario at low tide. It had all water and silky mud n crap on it. But it still runs to this day.

  3. To be honest i think my Mum will have to sell ours soon. I mean i would hate to see it go but it's a far to big job for just us to do. And on the transporting thing my dad drove his about 140 miles (i think) up the M40/M6 with a big army living trailer in the middle of the night and someone nearly choked in the trailer from the fumes. And that was to get from Heathrow to Weston Park offroad show. And after that he drove it back without any mechanical faults. Not many stolly owners would do that but then again my dad was mad. My point is the whole drivetrain can last quite a while wthout breaking. When running sweetly i think a Stalwart is probably one the nicest sounding vehicles out there.

  4. The sharp left was because coming over the hill the was a hole on the other side and my mum didn't see it and we just veered to the left. Oh and the loke with desert painted ferret lives about 10 mins up the road from me and i think he attends the west london mvt group meeting. Don't really know him.

  5. That might have been a different time. On the video i have it managed to cross the Solent but it got stuck or broke down on a beach. Towing it with the Centaur halftrack didn't work and just proceded the tracks to slide off (i think they slid off a bit) so they winched it with a Land Rover up the beach and then off they went into the island.

  6. Pops had a Stolly with a crane. He first tried his in the Thames at Twickenham slipway. Unfortunatly he only had one of the jets so he could'nt steer anywhere but i think the test was only to see if it could float. It's just a shame he died before he finished it. On another note one of my dad's friends Swam a Stolly from Hayling island to the I.O.W in 94 or 95.
