  1. Am intending going to Normandy next year with a vehicle for the first time. If I wanted to join a convoy could I? Or how do I go about finding out who to ask or what's on? Have looked on a variety of sites but is there an official site that has all the info on it?

  2. Hi

You bought the vest from my stall at Stoneleigh. As far as I am aware the covers were put on by the Irish Army but the vest (or at least some of them) were from Korean War era. I don't know for sure but that's what others told me. Would be interested to know for sure.

  3. Just bought what I hope is a 10cwt trailer that has been modified a bit. Its missing a few bits which I am now looking for like the handbrake, name plate, jacks and tailgate (or drawings for it). Should I restore back to original configuration or was this alteration likely to have been done during wartime? Any help with parts or id much appreciated.

  4. A fellow collector of mine over in the states has recently restored a towed 4.2" Mortar to add to his British Airborne collection.Apart from the fact he has done a cracking job on the restoration it is also capable of firing.

The flare in the mortar round is so he can find it !

  5. Hi

Am looking for details of the DT Tank Transporter ramps shown in a couple of these great photographs. Or any more pictures of the transporters.

  6. Got room for a Saladin, have you still got your Fox I never did receive your pictures you were going to email me.

    Cheers Stan.

    Hi Stan

Not the Saladin I'm afraid, only have about 14-15ft or so. Plenty of weight just no length.

Yes still have the Fox and sorry you didn't get the link to the pictures. PM me your email address and I'll send you the link to flickr where the photos are. Am about to readvertise again due to some clown mucking me about here in Scotland and up your way! But have cleared all that up now.

If someone wanted it from down south was going to deliver it to Beltring, hence the space!

  7. if you swap the sump , and inlet manifolds , and water pumps from the orriginal block you are there , just one fan belt has to be deleted if you leave the french distributor on , but if you put an adaptor plate in between the wartime distributor and the wartime gear cover you can delete the french distributor (cam shaft is slightly longer) This is possible with the 21 stud engine , and 24 stud engine (heads on french 24 stud engine have radiator hose connection in different place, so 24 stud WW2 head can be swapped as well) . clutch matches straight on to gear box .

Thanks Maurice, thats a great help.

  8. Can anyone tell me what is required if anything to fit the French 4.2 litre Postwar V8 into where a UK wartime V8 was? Someone said something about an adaptor plate but have no idea what this is.

    Thanks

  9. And I thought I was asking a simple easy to answer question! How wrong was I!!! Sorry about that.

I have just received a reminder to update my photo on my licence. I wonder if they will add the extra weight allowance to mine then!!!! And as if I've changed my looks!! Cheek of it, and I'm not grumpy either!

Still no further forward with the project though!

Thanks for everyones input, will have to read over, and over, to make sure I understand everything.

  10. Intend towing with a 1941 Ford Truck. Didn't know about making trailer from other vehicle parts, thanks for that. Overall weight is expected to be Carrier at 3.5ton plus trailer. 3.5ton trailers are just over their limit and there is nothing on the market that I know about that will do less than 7 ton but more that 3.5 ton! If I tow with the Ford, will I have to have an HGV? Or is it exempt? New ground for me!

  11. I'm about to begin a project to build a trailer suitable for carrying my Universal Carrier. I require the trailer to carry approx. 4 ton max. Can anyone advise on any military type axles I can use to carry this weight? Twin axles to be used, unless someone has a small heavy duty low to the ground trailer!

    Thanks

    Nigel
