  1. The Pig is now being driven on the roads at long last! its had a few good trips out without any issues - bar the radiator cap leaking slightly. All the lights, indicators and horn are wired up. I've fitted the electronic ignition supplied by classic car heads (after nearly 1 month of waiting and many phone calls!!) which has transformed the running of the pig entirely. The brakes are OK but i feel that it could do with a new vacuum servo and relined brake shoes as they are still a bit vague / spongy. One hydraulic ram is working and the other is going to have to have a new piston made up due to corrosion, seat belts are fitted but the rear bench seats need to be made - i need to try and find info on the type of wood and measurements if any one can help ?? The fuel and coolant temp gauges don't work so will need to be removed and checked at some point then its just the usual tidy up of little bits here and there so it can be taken to shows! more pics to follow
  2. A few more pictures , lifted the box using a hoist from drivers side door, dropped onto wood inside the can then slid out the back !
  3. The gearbox came out nicely and I sent the friction plate away to be relined. With the gearbox off I replaced the release bearing and cleaned the bell housing as it was filthly, The pressure plate and flywheel where actually in good condition so with the friction plate relined It should be good for a few more miles! and whilst waiting for the relining to be done I sorted the fuel lines out, rebuilt the fuel pump, made the exhaust up and came across a nightmare with the distributor whilst changing the points! On removing the distributor cap to service the points and fit a new condensor I noticed the contacts where fused together , and then that the moveable plate hadn't been secured properly explaining the backfire which split the old silencer! I've decided its a convinient time to get rid of the contacts and convert to a fully electronic ignition system so will be using te kit supplied by http://www.classicheads.com/ .
  4. Yes just for taking the weight of the gearbox as I imagine its a bit heavier than the modern ones I'm used to !
  5. thanks I hadn't even considered that ! Will update this thread once I have given the pig a check over, just arranged use of an engine hoist, very excited to get back to the pig and start work now.
  6. Ah right I understand, that's what I have done differently, I didn't have the original fittings so have used compression fittings where the pipes terminate with some new unions!
  7. Thanks Clive appreciate the kind words ! Currently at Uni so cant wait to get back and start work on it. Oil level and smell was fine when I checked, I replaced the fuel filter so I'm pretty sure its clear but will check and it should be a fibre washer? from memory its currently using a copper washer so will change that. Also the threaded hole for the grease cup was stripped when I checked so will put a Heli-coil in when I've got the box out. Out of interest for your fuel lines did you use compression fittings or did you flare the ends of the pipes ?
  8. Very long time no update. Has since had: New brake expander units Replacement Vacuum servo 2 Engine oil and filter changes NOS Master cylinder Run at new years It was clear after the run at new years that a few issues needed addressing, including : A loss of power , making it difficult to climb over 25mph The clutch wont release properly Takes excessive priming of the fuel pump by hand to get started and occasionally very difficult to start. The exhaust silencer needs renewing So the plan from next week: Remove Gearbox and clutch assembly to replace/refurbish using this company who will either match or refurbish the pressure plate, friction plate and release bearing. http://www.clutchnet.co.uk/company.htm Fabricate a new silencer between down pipe and rear section. Replace contact points. (and condenser with new instead of NOS!) Replace fuel line joints (currently using compression fittings which i think are intermittently leaking) with flared ends and unions (convex flare?) Connect all headlights, turn signals and brake lights up. Quick lick of Nato green. Few pictures of 1) A cartoon the local paper did on the Humber 2) A picture of the Humbers previous resting place ( being used for advertisement outside a restaurant for a good few years before we got hold of it ). 3) A recent article on the Humber in our local newspaper as we try to get it ready for Liberation day parade.
  9. Hi , im the owner of a humber pig , This was my previous build thread http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?23281-new-humber-pig-owner. Lots of work has since gone in to getting the Humber to the stage It is at now. It has had it's first drive last night just on a flat driveway, all is working well but the clutch seems to be slipping or not fully disengaging. I will gather more pictures and update with how I get along. Richard
