I know that this has been a frequent Question asked. But we would like more information of Britsh Bronze Green of the post war period.
We have the BS numbers, but being in Canada, few mixers can get this formula right (we just had the turret done...and its more like Bedford commercial green), so back for a re-spray it will go.
Has any one had BBG commercially mixed, and do you have the mixing codes available?
Many thanks

Just a passing thought , but could a RR B81 be installed into a Saladin. I have an ex - Stalwart B81 configured with a dry sump. Could it go into a Saladin ?. The engines dimensions on paper are the same . The B80 Gearbox mounting casting fits the B81 - holes seem identical. I have not studied the idea in depth but would assume there is someone out there who has installed a B81 in place of a B80 in a MV. Before I get too carried away with the idea could someone please point out the blindingly obvious? ( I do have a mint B80 sitting in its crate just in case....) but maybe that extra HP attracts !!
Technically, Yes, its the same set up. We have a B 81 set aside as our "spare"

Going back to GMC engine colours, When we did a T-17 a couple of years back, both GMC 270's blocks were found to be painted Grey. These were the original engines that were installed, and we do know that the vehicle saw service in Holland, and was returned to Canada in Late '45, early '46, so she saw no other service to potentially add other colours.
hope this helps?

And then>>>>>> You get some muppet who has spent a couple of hours playing 'Call of Duty' and think they know it all.
Some very thoughtful comments here.
Yes, its changing, some things for the better, some, not so much. Youth participation is an area that we should be looking at, as there is so much for Youth to do today, if we are to foster interest, then its up to us really to engage them so thay know we exist. I work on things other than old MV's, such as Classic cars and Vintage Motorcycles, and I can tell you that to many of us, a 1975 Honda CB 750, well, thats just an old cheep bike, right? well, not anymore, parts and restoration can run into costs you can't imagine. Its an example of the costs of rebuiling old machiney. Price out a Restored Sherman? even a post war E 8 version will set you back more than a bit, and we all know that life is getting expensive, while wages stay, well, flat.
The nice thing about what we do, is that there is so much choice in vehicles, some expensive, some not, so most of us can find a place. Whats important for us, is that we see when someone is new, or is struggling to present what they can afford to do, we encourage them. Their rig might not be perfect, but lets be helpful and not judge to harshly so that they may be encouraged to stay in this hobby

I crewed (drove then commanded) a battlegroup rebro Ferret between 1977 and 1980. We only ever had two times VHF sets (initially C42, replaced by UK/VRC353). I can think of no real reason why any Ferret would need more than two sets. When they were used as recce vehicle, there wasn't the room inside for three Larkspur sets; there may have been more room with Clansman, but there was no technical or tactical reason for a rebro Ferret to carry three.
The question I'd ask is whether somebody thought a third antenna base mount might be a cool idea for no reason other than "I can do it" like taking an Airfix kit and mounting bombs, rockets and torpedoes simply because they were all provided.
These look orginial, and I'm not sure if they appeared on all variants? I am reffering to the screw type caps in the picture.

while working on another vehicle in the shop, the sunlight was entering just so, and a beam fell on the front plate of the Ferrets turret.
I could see the outline of letters under the paint faintly, and it spells out "HAYBALLER" in stencil block letters
Ferret number is 18 EA 40
As its has some extra radio ant. mounts, thinking this could be a REBRO version?
Ideas?

As it would happen, on closer examination with Paul, the word is "HAYBAILER". with so many layers of paint, its quite obscurred.

Well quite possibly nobody will want to buy it, and I notice from the blurb that the design team are looking for a manufacturing partner, so I get the impression this is still very much in the idea phase. I can well imagine for some countries this could be an ingenious and cost saving concept, common automotive platforms and so on.
Given the number of years (decades) a CVRT replacement has been in the offing, I wouldn't write this idea off just yet, even if it does use old tech..! I think it could probably work quite well as a multi purpose load carrier, but i can see all kinds of problems with this as a fighting/ recce vehicle..

I worked in the Canadian Defense industry, Armour, and we re-purposed many of our older M-113 FOV hulls. One type was this concept, with the hull lengthend 3 feet, and then a new bulkhead a few feet behind the drivers station, then a flat floor for multi use. Could be Hiab equipped, and / or have a RWS installed (C-6 GMPG). It had two large pull out drawers in the rear as tool bins. Nice new power pack with hydrostaic steering ! , Two finger driving, very nice change :-)

The cover in your hand goes at the base of the rear doors, covers the electrical wires of the convoy lamp

It looks like the original mountings for the rear hitch spring have been modified to give it a lower height.
This is from the handbook:
I tend to agree, having been around a few of the type (and having old MV's on the farm growing up...with MANY mods), this drop down is likely a modification

PM me if you want a replacement unit.
All good!
we added threaded inserts and rebuilt with new bearings, but I will drop you a line about them, having spares is always a good thing !

Certainly is a superb collection !:-D
Thank you so very much. We strive to ensure that the fleet is kept up to best possible condition, and with help of venues such as this excellent fourm, we can find the historical information we need to be as accurate as possible in our restorations. Being in Canada, it can be a struggle at times to get information and parts, and we can't thank the members in the UK enough for all their help so far.

As we prepare for a day of driver training next week, we are moving quite a bit of the Collection around, and being thats its been great weather for a Canadian October, we are taking a few pictures. Here is the Collection' Bv 202 and 206, both ex-British Army. The 202 is a great runner, but will need things like some sheet metal repair and a new or fabricated hood to finish it off. There is no history on this Bv 202 at all, so we are looking at finishing it as an example of the type used in the Falklands War

So, noticed that there are lots of places to put vehicles, but no section for vehicles of nations not normally thought of. Since we are preparing for a small local parade this Sat., thought I'd snap a couple of pictures of the collection Volvo Sugga. its a 1954, and has a complete and orginal interior, right down to the service tags. We could however, use a hint on where to find the correct radios for it. (please !!!)
cheers

Hi everyone,
Here is an overhead of the collection Stolly, in the back is a J 60, Saracen tires, a Ferret gearbox and other sundry items to make it a bit of a display. Still sorting out the fluid leak in this one. Could be Crane realated and we had a good suggestion from Robin to install isolation valves to close off flow to the crane when not in use. Anyone want to chime in on this? I think it might be a great way of not pulling the crane out to find the leak !!, or am I missing something critical in the hyd. circut?
oh, and does anyone have pictures of the Stolly in RTR service from the late '70's ?
many thanks

Paint Question?
in British Vehicles
Posted
Thanks everyone for the feedback, BS paint is near impossible to get here, but we have found that Dupont 38500A is a good cross reference number.
Many thanks to Robin Craig for getting us in touch with a US Land Rover Spares outfit "Rovers North" , who came up with the number. We have done a test panel, and are happy with the results.
