  1. when i'm posting the site times me out and losses what i write.... how do i stop this??? also how do you easily post pics???
  2. after reading the manuel dissasembled the bevel box completly to find that the bevel gear ( referred to as a bevel wheel ?) seems to be broken, freely turns instead of a locked assembly...does anyone out there know its part number? or where i might vind one? joe in albany
  3. thank-you for the much needed information...the shop manuel should help as well as the great info on andy's site....once again thanks for the help....joe in albany
  4. hello all... i've purchased a ferret from the same collector that i bought my humbler pig and bedford pig from... ferret reg. no. 04cc09.... the bad part is the ferret nose was badly damaged in a shop fire... during repair work i noticed that the front left bevel box is busted internally... i fear the short axle in the chalace? is broken.... have removed the bevel box,and loosened the large spaner ring to the outside as well as all fastners etc. of the joint... remember this is a burn so all seals are wiped out as well as the broken axle.... how do you remove the ball from the housing????? i thought the spanner ring would do it but i was wrong.... i would greatly appricate all input from british ferret owners on how to take it apart, what to watch for , lash and tollerances for reassembly as well as a possible source for seals and my busted short axle.... thank-you all for your attention in this matter.... p.s. i've noticed that between us and uk we give different names for components point out proper names for things i may have miscalled...p.p.s i have no manuels at all. which would be most helpful for involved mechanical repairs? james hickey albany oregon usa...... ferret, bedford pig, humber flying pig
  5. thanks for the info i'll try the priming....will post pics of progress on bedford and humber..... the humber has been fairly easy to maintenance after all floor plates were removed pressure washed brakes etc. and sand blast/ paint.... the bedford required engine rebuild, frame r and r and replacement back to it's original chasis with sandblast and paint...it now looks as it should and is remarkably complete....but certainly not a cheap project... not far from runing the bedford awaiting a carb rebuild..... will post pics of work tonight... joe in albany
  6. mechanical work is coming along on the humber and bedford pigs i purchased several months ago... question, on the humber the generator makes an odd whine sound at low rpm which goes away at higher revs....is this normal or could it be a bearing??? any info is greatly appricated....joe in oregon
  7. have been working on the bedord rl pig chasis and body, rebuilt engine it's a 300 sleeved gas... can anyone tell me what spark plugs go in this engine???? have been unable to cross reference this engine to get the part number.... bosch champion ac or ngk are all ok just need a parts number..... joe in oregon
  8. had to free up transmission so,while i've got it out installing new clutch and pressure plate... my question is what type of rear main seal is on this 6cyl RR??? does it have a conventional ring seal as in modern engines that can be easily removed and replaced??? my manuel mentions something about "white pine rods or pins at the rear main... are these engines prone to rear main leaks???? any info greatly appricated .... joe in oregon usa
  9. thank-you all for your kind words of support on the purchases...most especially any effort to illuminate the history and movements of these vehicles...my battle plans for these vehicles are quite straight forward....after transport the humbler will get work to put it in running condition, mech. work to get it running and driving without extensive disassembly just stabilization..... the bedford is another matter...i'll go to the chasis first, clean up and get it operational then clear the body from the ford chasis and remove everything that is not stock...then reassemble in it's original state....after examination it seems quite complete with only small bits missing have as well the original radiator and rad. shielding....body is bolted directly to frame by way of through bolts using hard alloy ( cast alum.?) blocks... i will do my best to get it right and avoid any modifications....the story that goes with it is this.... the man i bought it from says that he was importing british armour several years ago and that if he sold 5 he got one free and this is what was sent to him as a freebee....port of entry was L.A. from the uk...i bought it because of it's rariety and it's association with "the emergency" apperantly a very nasty 12 year conflict of course i don't think my local armour clubs will think much of it because there mostly us armour but i know that uk contacts will be pleased....plan on publishing many pics and discriptions of construction to shed light on this obscure vehicle....the gun ring you see on it is saracen but i think i'll leave it.... if i may be so blunt and hope not to offend anyone, what does any one guess it's value is??? this has a bearing to me as to cost of repair/restoration as opposed to value... again thank-you all for your interest...joe in albany...p.s. phone calls are fine, i'm at 541-928-9255
  10. here are some pics bought the bedford today....joe in oregon ps what do the insignia mean on the bedford?
  11. i get the feeling if i don't buy the bedford it wil be cut to pieces by the locals.... no one around here has a clue as to what it is.... seems a shame it's probably the last of it's kind.... to buy or not to buy that is the question.... joe
  12. glad to hear from someone..... am aware that the bedford was built in singapore i read somewhere that only two made it back to the uk.... this one was exported from uk to usa 7 or 8 years ago same with the flying pig according to the owner... is the bedford apc rare??? am planning on transporting the pig on monday will photo both and post then to help with id... where do i look for the id plate on these vehicles???? the pig is complete flying mark 2 varient. does this mean it served in northern ireland???if the bedford is very rare i might try to save it even tho it's seperated from the chasis...luckly he kept the original bedford 4wd chasis and it's mostly all there.... he also has a complete feret but hasn't disscused price....any reply is much appricated as i anticipate i will need good uk contacts for the restoration....joe in oregon
  13. interested in info on bedford truck apc has gurka markings on front and rear as well as serving unit of the flying pig no markings seen as yet just purchased yesterday located in rural oregon usa imported 7-8 years ago.... joe , oregon usa
