    I am still looking for a parts list for this truck is there is one out there some where?

     

    Even more unlikely would be a radio body for the same truck? maybe a garden shed tucked away in a quiet corner?

     

    any leads are greatly appreciated

  2. Hi nick, yes it's quite at home with all the other rust in the shed :-) I did manage to recover a lot of bits of the rear body, probably enough of the various panels to replicate another, it's a shame because the last time I saw it it was in one lump, it was also rustier than i remembered !!

    I was just reading through this series of postings from a while back an wondered if any more progress was made with the serial numbers?

     

    I have Morris C4 2244 WT 2093 and has assumed the 2244 was a date, obviously this is wrong now by reading the above posts.? What does it mean?

     

    I'm also on the lookout for a parts book if there is one out there?

     

    Am I right in thinking the wireless bodied trucks had an under chassis spare wheel carrier?

     

    What about any documentary materials relating tot he wireless bodies? was there ever a manual?

    Years ago I remember an add running in Wheels and Tracks for Crook Brothers Near Preston who had a number of WW2 military vehicle to dispose of, I suppose this would be mid 1980's ish. Amongst this lot was a Dingo. Would anyone one here remember it at all, was it ever photographed?

    the brass plate s the contract plate, there is a body number stamped in to the timber below the back seats.

     

    here's a pic of the sliding hatch, we can sort out some drawings when you are ready for them

    What great pictures and fabulous find! I hope those forks didn't puncture the fuel tank?

     

    I have a few numbers taken from various parts lists, manuals and of course Alex's fine list. I've posted what I have here and would be very keen to see some of the gaps filled in if there is any more information out there? For instance how many vehicles were produced in some of these earlier and indeed later contracts? I do note though that you have a windscreen on this Humber with square and not rounded corners, I had taken this to be a feature of earlier vehicles. Are you sure your number is 8650501? and not 845 or 855 ? Just a thought.

    Later contracts appear to be:

    S7122 (865 serials dated mid 1944)

    S9323 (865 serials dated early 1945)

    S10432 (865 serials dated 1947)

     

    And earlier contracts appear to be:

    V3829 (835 serials early 1940 onwards)

    V3941 (835 serials early 1941 onwards)

    V4856 (845 serials late 1941 onwards)

     

    According to Alexs fine list of Humber serial numbers 8650528 is a contract S7122 vehicle with a contract date of 20th July 1944 and delivery there after?

  7. Just trying to track down a thread size for the nuts that secure the two halves of the military split rims on the box and other Humber vehicles. I was surprised to find they were not listed in the parts list. Not in mine anyway!

  8. I recovered a vehicle from Caen last summer and used a company from Liverpool, They were great and delivered exactly to plan. Happy to pass on the number if you PM me.

  9. Thought I'd just add this picture here, this is a family member, picture taken in Normandy at the HQ in Cully shortly after the landings. Soldier in question belonged to 24th Lancers, in this picture armed with both a revolver and a Sten.

  10. Hands up! The Chevrolet C8A HUP is mine! We still have it in the shed. Will have had it 30 years this year. In the days of more frivolous education spending I bought this truck with my first terms education grant! What I thought then and now to be money well spent. We completely rebuilt it for Normandy in 1994 and drove to the ferry with paint that was still wet in places!! It performed faultlessly throughout and was a real bonus with all the rain! On the same campsite was Mike Burnes PUTR C8A and John Marchants C8A HUW. It was very wet and muddy, even now we call by to remember the mud city fortnight each time we're in Normandy!

  11. Got it! Thats great thanks, Platt Fields and not Platts Field, that'll teach me to listen more carefully next time! A quick wiz around google throws up 252 Field Artillery Regiment in the period I'm interested in, that would be late 1950s thorough to the late 1960s. Another result! Some great 25 pdr pictures if you look.

    Thanks for that, its interesting. Its the disposal centre for our Humber Box, from disposal it went to the Manchester area where it was privately owned by a REME Sergeant at a TA centre in 'Platts fields', some where else I can find no reference too! Every little helps!
