Hi Rootes75, thank you for your reply. I didn’t know they had different engines! I’ll have to go back and find out more information. I rang Speedy Spares but they needed a chassis number. It’s always difficult sourcing correct parts for somebody else.

Hi Glynn. Did you ever get any joy with the collets? A friend of mine without internet access needs a set of them for his Sugga. Any help much appreciated, thank you.

Hi Duncan (or anybody else), do you have the part number to hand for the Commer Q4 cylinder head gasket please? An older (80) friend of mine has a couple of these lorries and has asked if I can get him a gasket or two. He's not online. Any help very much appreciated, thank you, -Roger.

Thank you Gerry, it's a very interesting group. There doesn't seem to be much published on the subject of Jeeps in post-war British service, so it's good to have this group to collate what there is. And you're a fan of Jerricans too! What is the matter with us?!

It's not a moped either!

I'd forgotten about this thread! No problem with the link, Roger.
I keep looking at a pile of rust which used to be S2A lightweight 41FG45 and thinking I must start its restoration.
Thanks Ivor, only subscribers to HMVF could see the pictures anyway.
If you're on FB, please take a look at my page for inspiration!
I've been reprimanded before for putting a link to it on here, but it can be found by searching for "Series IIA lightweight Land Rover (Rover 1)". Please feel free to upload pictures of your project, I'm sure everyone would find them most interesting.
Regards,
-Roger.

Only a Lance Corporal Rog?
I'd prefer Lance-Bombardier!

Nice pictures, Ivor!
I don't know why I haven't seen them sooner. I have one of these vehicles myself, ex-RAF, and have a FB page dedicated to the type. I've put a link to your pictures -I hope that's OK.
Thanks for sharing them, regards,
-Roger.

Thanks for that Eugene, I worked out over lunch that a 511 would probably do it. Ordered one from my battery supplier, but that cost £85 odd! Where did you get one for that price?
Oops! -looked at the invoice for the one I bought in 2001! The one I bought recently was £84 (£96.60 including VAT).
Apologies for any inconvenience -especially if you've booked a holiday in Cornwall!

Cornwall Battery Centre, Truro.

Trying to source a 6 volt battery from one of my battery suppliers. Is there a generic for for it ie an 063, 075 for modern cars? If not, what are the dimensions and ah I need to look for?
I use a 511 (6 volt, 105AH). It fits the bracket, but I have to hacksaw the thick rubber from the top at each end to fit the frame -no trouble, but will no doubt invalidate any guarantee.
Bought one recently for £52.59 all in.

One suggestion elsewhere is that the tubes are loudspeakers through which incessant Des O'Connor music is played. Any other ideas?
Vera Lynn music?!

Great film, Nick!
Interesting to see one bike sporting an AA badge -I'm sure some know-it-all seeing that at a show would say it was wrong!

-Roger.

Are you looking for Chernobyl specific isotopes or other isotopes for example those released by other causes for example radon leaching out of granite by water action?
Steve
I'm not looking for anything, I just pour water into a carboy, tag/ label it and stick it on a van!
It's about 15 years since I did any radiochemistry.

Incedentally, there are still farms in the UK, mainly Welsh hills which still have to have stock tested for fallout before they can be sold.
As a water treatment operator, we take samples from our river supply every week which are sent away to be tested for -amongst other things- radiation from Chernobyl. The results are published annually in a book along with those for all the other rivers used for drinking water throughout the country.

Hi Nigel,
here's some pictures of my Canadian charging set that you might find of interest;
Don't laugh -it's how I bought it! It's currently under restoration -when I get around to it.
I haven't had it running, but it would spin over on a battery and I've since got it sparking.
I also have one of the 1950s BSA units and a similar American type.

Nope! But it is definitley a war film, a sequel to a classic,
Force 10 From Navarone

B*gger - Eugene got it first!
Sorry Jack -I'm off to give my Aunt some chocs now, so you've got a free run if there's any more!
-Roger.
