I thought that spartan looked familiar, I took my H licence test in it last July!
I remember it being spritely but I don't think it smoked quite that much at the time.

This is the thread we've posted about the model we're building

Hi Nick,
Thanks, brown had crossed my mind, I may end up going for that.
The lanchester looks great by the way.
I got the pontoon drawing from a WW1 bridging manual, I'll see if I can find the link.
Myself and a couple of friends are building a model based on the 2' gauge light railways in use behind the front lines, I'll add a link to that as well shortly, it's booked for the tracks to the trenches event in September.
Cheers

Hi,
I am part way through building a model pontoon bridge section like this:

Here are a couple of photos of my progress so far
Can anyone help me with the colour it needs to be?
I'm thinking an olive drab, although I'm not sure.
A friend of mine sent me the following extract from a book, I think it was 'One More River To Cross - The Story Of British Military Bridging'.
"Pontoon Mark II (The Clauson Pontoon)
The timber framed pontoons were clad in American white pine, with 3/8” side and 7/16” bottom planking; both sides of the cladding were covered with canvas, secured by five layers of India rubber solution, and the canvas was then coated with marine glue."
Unfortunately this doesn't really help with the colour.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I've hired a flat bed from a local plant hire company a few times, it's not exactly cheap but it saves a lot of wear and tear over long distances

you'll need a V55/5 form
When I registered my Spartan it was through a local DVLA office, you'll have to go through Swansea now.
Have a look here

Edit, you'll also need these I think
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/exemption-from-mot-testing-v112g
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/declaration-of-exemption-from-mot
A CVR(T) will be MOT exempt since it's tracked, if its old enough it might be nil vehicle excise duty as well.

Glynwood were prepared to insure me on my spartan when I was 23, you will likely have to be a member of a society like the MVT or similar.
(No connection other than a happy customer)

It might be worth asking Terry Brooks, he might be able to help.

I took my cat H test with him in his CVR(T) Spartan

I managed to register mine reasonably easily about 18 months ago, the only issue was that I didn't have the MOD release form so I had to get a verification letter from the MVT
Once I had that there wasn't a problem, except for having to take it to my nearest vosa station before they would finalise the paperwork
This was through a local dvla office though, I don't know whether things will be more difficult now

I took my test with Terry and his diesel Spartan last year.
I can also highly recommend his course.

Lovely, I don't think the Hawk and Tucano pilots on training flights round here would approve though...

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I'm looking to install a basic intercom (driver to commander, not a full radio fit) in my Spartan and I was wondering if anyone could advise me which parts I'd need to order?
(And what connects to what if possible)
I'm thinking this would be suitable with a couple of headsets?
I take it if I just install the basic intercom there aren't any radio frequency/licence issues?
Thanks in advance

It turns out it was a final drive plug, to say I'm relieved to have found it would be an understatement!
Cheers for all the help and hints

Looks like quite a project, good luck with it.
When I looked at these on Withams site, I think I am right in thinking there isn't a cupola on them.
No connection to the seller but Milweb threw this out today:

Might be of interest

Thanks for the replies.
I'll keep looking, its obviously meant to be attached somewhere!
First port of call will be check all the oil levels, then for a drain plug I think.
If its a J60 sump plug it might have got left over from the engine swap.
Cheers

Has the hull been drilled to let the water out? It's possible that whoever did that may have tapped the holes and fitted this as a drain plug.
Chris
Thanks Chris,
There are a number of holes in the bottom of the hull, and a part of the hull was removed when it had the diesel fitted and a new sump guard fabricated.
There's a good chance it could be being used as a drain plug, at least if its not originally a Spartan part then its less likely to cause a major issue if its missing, I'm still determined to find out where its come from though.
Thanks again
Mike
