  1. Oh and for the record I don't have anything the cubed doesn't know about.

I think he knows all about all my shoes, handbags and hats I have stashed in the wardrobe!!!!

HMMMM......................... I don't believe that for one minute ........You laydees kid yourselves that 'we all know' when in fact Us blokes really are not that interested,as long there is enough cash for the real essentials in life ( beer, pies/pasties. crisps, beer, copious amounts of tea whilst spannering ........):-D

  2. Only 10 ?? boo ....

    AEC Militant recovery (any mk)

    Bedford MK

    Churchill Tank

    Cheiftain ARVE

    Challenger tank transporter

    Foden 6x6 recovery

    Foden drops.

    Land Rover 101 Radio bodied

    LRDG Chevy truck.

Vosper Motor Torpedo boat (well it is fantasy ....)

  3. I probably am stupid but.....

Having bought a 1957/8 Bedford CA MK1 as a restoration project I now discover it is an ex Naval runabout.

I am aware that the rules of restoration are 1: Don't break anything and 2: Don't throw anything away. Now I can add to that, 3: Don't rub the paintwork down too hard or you can obliterate any previous serial numbers and hence history.

So where do I go from here? You are all Army vehicle types, armour plate and armaments with drab green in your veins.

Who cares about RN stuff then?

My missus was expecting two tone cream and maroon. How can I tell her that Navy blue will look great and that white lettering is historically significant

Is there some clandestine group who slink about at classic vehicle shows in a 'Naval Vehicle' area..?

I don't think that I have ever seen them. So where do old RN vehicles go if they don't float...?

    Help

Well the Royal Marines are part of the Navy, so any Royal Marine machinery would technically be 'Navy' rather than 'Army'.

As to the newspaper, no idea ,,,,,,,,,,

  4. In the above tin plate toys was a large toy Routemaster bus.

wheels and axles missing, bit dented and a small amount of patchy rust .......

It went on the bay of E for £82.00 ............

    gobsmacked .......

  5. Went to collect a skip this morning, house clearance type situation, noticed an oven on the top, alarm bells start ringing, as fridges are often found with them, and we do not take fridges or freezers.

So had a quick looksee in the skip just in case, luckily none found.

Pulled out an tin plate toy trailer, found some old board games. Made a note not to let the yard lads get in first.

Back at yard we had a proper rummage, stacks of old tin plate style toys, loads and loads of old school Meccano.

Me and other driver filled boot of his estate car with them.

    Now on Ebay ............

The only bad thing is of course that the owner has obviously passed away, and family has cleared the house and thrown the lot. Sometimes its hard seeing peoples possessions and memories getting shoved into the rubbish heap.

  6. The only trailer winches i've come across are for pulling cables, either thru conduit or pulling them up over poles/pylons.

Also used for raising/lowering floodlights, masts etc.

  7. Been thinking about the best way of re-connecting the wires on the instrument panel and am thinking about using a short piece of wire on each terminal with a bullet connector, then a connector on the cable from the loom. Then, instead of trying to get to the small slotted screws of the connectors, its just a case of pushing the bullet connectors together.

Anyone else done it this way or does anyone see a problem with this?

    Thanks

    Richard

As long as you fit the right connectors, then it does make life easier. (by 'right' i mean if the loom has a 'male' fitting, you fit a 'female' to the wire, sounds obvious now, but its a pain when your upside down under a dash wondering why your connectors don't fit ....... (cough ..........not that i'd know about that ......... cough .......)

  8. To add a few ideas intro the pot so to speak ....

When spannering, i have a supply of clear food bags, the ones that have the white bit on them that you can write on, are the best. Put stuff in them and label them saves a lot of 'hassle ' later on .....

Take a biro, make sure it works. (see above)

Take a cardboard box/crate, to put the above bags of bits in, believe me, it might seem daft, but nowt worse than having piles of 'stuff' in the way.

As said before, Digi camera ,not just to put pics on here, useful for reference as to how things fit.

    Flask and some grub.

  9. My advice on your above list, replace all the uj's on the prop shafts, in my experience you do one end, then the other will give up a week later ........ (been there done that)

Nothing ruins Landy oil seals better than having the vehicle sat for ages, so you'll probably be better off replacing most of them.

And as to those philips floor screws .... i couldn't agree more ... horrid things .......

  10. :-D:-D:-D:-D yup, had many a finger nail full of ****!!!!!

Well i was up on the Tromel machine on saturday. (thats the conveyor sorting sytstem for those who don't know) and i managed to stick my (gloved) hand thru a carrier bag full of excrement .........

  11. so are hook lifts alowed to play in the skip club 8 wheel volvo at 32 tones though got loaded internaly and topped out at 48.900 once

    More than welcome.
