Hi Dave,
Where abouts are you getting your engine work done? As I am considering pulling mine and having the work done in preparation for Normandy

Morris oils do a 140 grade which I would recommend as more suitable for your application.
I'll look into that tomorrow , thanks for that

Are these tyres suitable for the MW
I have 3 Dunlop Trackers which are like new and one odd make that is no good . I am replacing the front two and keeping one of the trackers as a spare , or can anyone suggest another option .
Thanks

Hi just found your thread on the MW, looks far better than the one we have under restoration. If you have an approximation of its build date I have a copy of Chilwell’s “B” vehicle WD numbers 1939 to 45 so may be able to help. Baz
Hi Baz
Its not in too bad a condition body wise , the engine is getting a total rebuild valves , guides , pistons rebore etc.The body luckily is in good nick . It was dated 1943 , not sure of month .
Thanks

Hello Davey,
I don't recognise that from anywhere else on a mw. But i think i know what it is, this my friend is MW bling, it looks like a one piece copy of the airfilter pipe from the flame arestor to the top of the carb?
John
Thanks John, MW bling :cool2: . I think that will go in the scrap bin , or no doubt my lad will find some use for it for his 'Blinged Corsa' :-D .I'll get a photo of the paint I found behind the dash panel posted this week .
Thanks again

another question :-D going through the box of bits that came with the truck the following tube was in among the bits ,does it belong to the MW and if so where :nut: . All the bits for the flame trap/breather are present , so a bit of a mystery where this part is located if it does belong , it looks as if it has had coolant through it at some point .
It is actually made of brass .

I've changed to Adrian Flux after 10yrs with footman for that reason and others.......... They are more expensive , no Euro cover ........and then they tell me the wifes been driving the Jeep since we have had it illegally  , to long winded to into it in detail , but one thing for sure they are incompetent . Just as an example the Jeep is nearly half price with Adrian Flux .
I have insured the MW and Jeep for nearly the same price for what it cost me for the Jeep with Footman, and they DO give you 90 day's Euro cover.

Had a look inside the dash panel ,the colour inside there which I presume is the original colour is a shade of brown?, does that sound right
Thanks

Hello John
I'll have a good look around tomorrow in the daylight .The dash is stripped down so I'll check the inside's of the panels, also see if I can find another part on the truck that's been untouched to see if I can match two parts up.

Thanks John , should have thought of that .I was curious of the "Gloss" British racing Green colour , and what era that had come from , possibly 50's ?

Could anyone tell me the correct paint codes please for the MW .We have a local Varnish/Paint works that I can get the paint mixed ,or anyone that supply's the correct colour 1943 onwards .While rubbing the topcoat down which was a Matt Green/Olive? underneath that was a Gloss Green like British Racing Green and then back to a Matt Green/Olive .
Thanks

Was this one made to carry liquids ? It has a padded area that sits on the waist to stop it rubbing .

I have premium membership recovery through Brittania , that covers you for any vehicle you are travelling in whether it be your own or another member of your family , it also covers our 28' Motorhome with the vehicle trailer on .It covers European travel aswell , you nominate the main vehicle to be covered . I can't remember the exact cost as its taken each year automaticly through direct debit , its around £150.00, worth it for peace of mind .

And here I am thinking the correct color would have been a khaki/tan shade not green at all.....

Not being up to speed on the MW, what temp guage would be advisable to fit to my 1943 model , I have been told its not needed but I would feel happier knowing what's going on under the bonnet .
Has anyone fitted one to theirs ? .
Decided in the end to give the engine a full rebuild, new valves and guides , mains , crank re ground etc etc , block ,head manifold skimmed , the pistons and crank were still on std :cool2: so pleased about that .

Around 1943 onwards into Normandy KG3 , I've used the SOF and Shoot and Scoot . SOF covers the best straight out on the bottle ,agitate into dry webbing with a stiff brush in circular motion's, I don't dampen my webbing as recommended , think it thins it down too much .
Dunkirk was Pea Green , SOF ran a batch of this a while ago .

Tell me about it, told them to book it this time last year and they didnt
You could try here
We've stayed here for the last 20 yr (Motorhome), big site , central to the British Sectors nice place. They have B&B in the Chateau you might be lucky . Ring up ,the people that manage it are British ask for Sue , or she might know of somewhere if they havn't anything .

My mistake
, I was quite impressed with the coverage. A lot of effort for 10mins or so. Any idea where they got the original footage from?
EDIT: Oops looks like what I was replying to was removed.
? removed  It all came about when MCN contacted me as they had heard of me owning a Welbike , as the conversation went it got around to me mentioning Dennis and they did an article on him that will have been over a year ago . Then BBC contacted me not long after and said they would like to do a piece on Dennis and the Welbike so that's how it all came about .
Nick actually rode my Welbike , but they decided to use the Replicas as they didn't want to break mine :rotfl:. They took a load of footage(stills) of mine which they didn't use .
Dominic the lad that organises all the locations etc is sending me a DVD , hopefully the uncut full version of the day , the BBC unit was from Northern Ireland . I'll ask Dominic where they got the footage from .

They had a Brockhouse Corgi in the studio but later in the show they used reproduction Welbikes from Welbike UK (very good repros, can hardly tell the difference). The Welbike is basically far simpler than the corgis which were quite a bit larger and more practical for civilian use.
Two of the Welbikes were replicas , the one on the stand which Dennis (old comrade of my Dads) was sat on is my 1942 Mk1 Series 2 . We had a really good day out ,wined and dined for the day by the BBC and paid too:D .
To say we were there all day they certainly edited it , but some of the things which were funny I would have left in .
