Khaki Drill Kilts.
Worn by Scottish Regiments in tropical climates. From Victorian times till when?
Were they withdrawn enemas or one at a time as soldiers returned to UK.

29 years of service, started out as a 19D Scout, and then a 19K M60A3 tanker. I now have 11 MOSs, and still kicking. My funds limit me to small scale - I am mostly a 1/6th scale enthusiast looking for information and details for modeling military vehicles. I have a late Tiger I, and am currently working on Dragon's M4A3 Sherman. Work is very slow, as there are a lot of things I am modifying or replacing and the interior is completely missing. Those of you in possession of vehicles I hope you will forgive my quest for details and dimensions. Based on pictures and guestimates of size I made a full set of BC-606 intercom boxes...and then finally found dimensions. Opps...I was off by about 25%. Ouch!
Anyway, love the dedication and the willingness to share knowledge of the members of the board...all the best!
Welcome on board, can we see some photographs.

The title (from The Guardian) is a slight exaggeration but the video is worth watching:-
A bit of a heavy landing !

Thanks chaps, so I'm not going balmy . Looks an interesting clean shape. I worked at Aviation Traders Southend in the early 70's, Carvair was much spoken of but no mention of Vampires.
It would be a good project for a model .

Does anyone recall a project to convert D H Vampires to civil executive jets. Sounds daft in this day and age, reported on some serious TV programme Probably in black and white.

Welcome on board and what pray is the 'project' ?

Black lead grate polish can be found in Canal Marinas. Lots of narrow boats have solid fuel stoves and don't the owners love polishing everything to a bright shine.

Wow , you have put a lot of hard work into those pieces of history. Are they on public display in a museum ?

Chocks in front of wheels, how did that work, must have been a bit bumpy!
More of an iron shoe, dropped in front of wheel , wheel rolls onto it and slides along. lots of friction , shoe wears not the iron rim. Will hunt up a photo.

Nice work, i used to drive a 50,s David Brown at St Mawgan. Hope you find your industrial parts soon.Hi AllShe still isn't quite finished (are they ever) but last year I found myself a 1942 Fordson, she came from RAF St Eval in Cornwall and was used to tow mainly a bowser around but also bomb trailers and aircraft. Over the years I think parts from a Standard have been added on and the Industrial parts taken off, I've renewed the rear tyres, found some correct rims, fixed the water pump which were the pricey bits to do, I've fixed several leaks and some in the fuel tank, replaced the rear wings (think she may of had these narrow wings originally) Sporting an EN steering column and seat, these EN / Standard parts I'll retain as they do make her a little more practical to use, safer and passengers can stand on the footplate with something to hold on to, plus the wings protect me on the road.
Jobs to do are to replace a core plug, finish the markings, restore the steering wheel which I'm doing now and fettle a few other bits. One of the pictures has been taken outside the main entrance to RAF Wing the closest ww2 base to me, we've been out on the road a fair bit and a couple of local shows / fetes. Slow yes, can be an utter pig to start, stalled mid-turn a few times and been even a bigger pig to re-start but absolutely love it that I have one at the moment, she's like a little bit of old fashioned therapy every time I take her out, she runs a pretty good pace, not the 30mph some did alough I would like the gear to have, but she cruises at about 15mph which is a lovely speed and enjoy every minute of driving.
Looking for Industrial parts should you know of any...

TE=wildside;286432]Ive now got a new old stock carb brand new in its box repacked in 1965 and a new mag in its box. Ive started unscrewing the cylinders now to check the bores and rings and have nearly finished stripping the buried engine that I have. Also i can get the heads tig welded where they are damaged with the cylinders off as moving the engine to the welders would be a bit of a task. Hope fully some photos to follow soon.

Could be a local mod. to spray anything and every thing. De-iceing fluid, insecticide, disinfectant or what ever. Lots of 'bodge' jobs carried out to fix a local problem.

So it seemed a good idea at the time. Better to pack it in at an early stage, rather than spend a fortune proving it won't work.

Demob Suits.
in Clothing/uniforms
Posted
Post WW2 men leaving the armed forces were give a suit of civilian clothing.
Grandma had uncle Ds, hanging in a wardrobe for years. Never fitted him from the day it was given, till the day he died.
Now two of his sisters served, one WAC the other QARANC.
The question is, did ladies get a 'demob suit'. Or possibly extra clothing coupons
