  1. It also depends which date period you want to stay in with your weapons. Woodern SLR's were used upto a certain period, then NBC stuff came in to action and they changed furniture to plastic, in the 80's I think as plastic was easy to wrip down if chemicals got on them as wood would have soaked any chemicals and stay on there for a while. I not sure on prices, but I'm looking to join a reenactment group covering either the 80's or 90's, know of any?

I have been offered a SLR and No.4 how much are they worth now? I haven't seen either of the deacs yet so I know very little about them

Does it make any difference if the SLR has wood or plastic furniture?

  2. Hi Guys,

Recently I have used a company that have repaired 2 of my 9x9 tents. (Now up for sale, message me!). I see a few guys on here say they are looking for a company to repair their canvas on their Land Rover or Tents, now I would like to share with you guys a company called :-

    'HAMILTONS TEXTILES'

    Gibraltar Barracks, Camberley, Surry.

    Tel :- 01252 863036

The staff couldn't do enough for me and I found all their prices were very cheap compared to most. So please give them a call if you need any canvas repair and say Trevor the barber recommended you (No, i'm not on any commission, lol) They will laugh, as I said I'll go on here and pass on their details to help you all out.

(This advert was not produced by the company above or any staff who work there)

    Evening all,

I need to make some repairs to a reinforced vinyl cab top, a couple of patches where it chaffs on the frame and a complete re-stitch, I have two industrial machines one being a walking foot Singer which I think will be best for the job. My questions are, what thread type and size number do I need and who can I mail order it from? would the standard foot machine be better?

I have some VL 69 polyester with UV and a similar size spectra which I use for sails, would this be suitable or should it be Nylon and heavier so as not to rip the material?

    Thanks in advance,

    Quentin

As we are starting to sort stuff out for this season, and new on the agenda is pressing the generator, 8mm news reel film and projector into service in one of the bigs tents, i have finally got round to opening out the British army marquee i have had about for a while. It needs a few repairs, but for 70 year old dated canvas it's in good condition (just need to source some replacement poles). Checking it over i found the attached marking on the outer side of one of the roof sections. I have seen similar markings on kits bags being loaded prior to the Normandy landings. Does anyone out there know what it means? It is a pale blue strip over a green stripe. The stripes are probably 2" high and about 10" long.

    Thanks

  5. Help !

I today rolled out my associated military vehicle tents in order to give them a good airing ready for my first mv show ie muckleborough on the 26th of june and have discovered much to my annoyance the little bastards with tails have knorred a hole in my 9x9 frame tent which was like new to begin with .Ive yet to open up my bivvy tent which is going on my daf so fingers crossed they havent tucked into that.:argh:

my cats has been given their orders to exterminate anything mouse shaped

So does anyone know of someone who specialises in repairing these tents in east anglia or nearby and anchor supplies new are £550 each  As im in a bit of a panic now as it needs to be done before the show in north norfolk

    thanks
