Hello All,
May I chime in.
My father was a 50 mission B-17 pilot with the 15th Air force 97th Bomb Group, 342nd Bomb Squadron stationed in Foggia Italy (at Amendola 1) from May -Sept 1944. He went to Ploesti 6 times. Also participated in the First Shuttle Raid to Russia in June 1944.
My Uncle was a Captain in the 1st Infantry Division, 16th Inf Regiment. His first assignment was operation Overlord. He landed in the First Wave at Omaha Beach attached to the HQ company. Due the death of so many officers...on D-Day+1 he was made a rifle company commander of "K" company and went on to be a Rifle company commander for the rest of the War in "K" then "L" company. He fought in the Hurtgen Forest, Bulge and then on through to Czechoslovakia.
My uncle was in the Navy in the Pacific...I am embarassed to say I don't know his posting.
My Mom was a "Rosie the Riveter" who as her 2nd night job inspected M-1 Carbine Barrels at the Underwood factory in Hartford Connecticut USA.
and
My Grandfather was a volunteer air raid warden. He used to go around at night and made sure all the local houses had the "blackout" shades down. My mom's family lived within 3 miles of Colt Firearms, Pratt &Whitney Aircraft, Hamilton standard (propellors) and other war industries. They were worried about Luftwaffe Condors bombing the area. This eased up as the war progressed.
And my wife wonders where I get this military HMV infatuation thing from

lets just ferget the millions of people the americans an their 'leaders' have murdered around the world for most of their un-just wars.
Excuse Me Sir Neville Chamberlain !
I am one of those "Americans"!
I take exception to your unsubstantiated tripe!
Which un-just war would you be talking about....World War I ?, World War II ?, The Berlin Airlift ?, The Cold War ?, Korea ?, Vietnam ?, Somalia ?, Desert Shield/Desert Storm ?, Iraqi Freedom ?....
I deeply appreciate the British commitment to work as "allies" in ridding the world of worthless Savage killers....
Next time you need a hand...who you gonna call...Chirac?

Greetings all,
I spotted this trailer at a junk yard yesterday. (It tried to follow me home but the truck and trailer were loaded with a friends Chevy 1.5 ton Cargo that we we hauling for him....got to get a bigger trailer. )
It has a WWII style lighting receptacle, WWII style electric brakes, 5 bolt wheels. Although it did not have round fenders, but angled fenders. It was in nice shape but contains no data plates.
Can anybody tell me what model this trailer (specific or otherwise). I am assuming it was used by Signal Corps to stretch large diameter cable as it will accomidate large diameter cable reels.
If you have any in theater pictures please forward them on.

Ashley,
Thanks for the info.
I believe what you are referring to is this trailer pictured below.
Interesting.....The tires look awful small for a 1500# plus trailer.
Again Thanks for the link.

Hi Bill,
On most ex Norwegian trucks I have seen(both GMC and Dodge) it looks more like the paint was put on with a trowl! on one Dodge I swear the paint was half an inch thick
Extra armor maybe?
Matt.
Matt,
I agree. On my 353 the top coat looks like it was put on with a mop. Next spring it comes off with a sand blaster.

You guys with Ex-Norwegian trucks....
Was the Norwegian OD paint put on with a Brush or sprayed on?

Success!
First I would like to Thank all those who contacted me on and off list about this trailer. Seems it is extremely rare.
I took a chance and bought a book off of ebay titled German Military Trailers and Towed Equipment 1935-1945 authored by Horst Beiersdorf.
It arrived today and inside I found the following picture
(Please excuse the poor scan as the book picture is a scan of the Technical manual and I reduced the size considerably to reduce bandwidth)
As it states it is a SD.AH.25/2 signal corps trailer.
Guess it is extremely rare here in the States so I will buy it.
Anyone know where I can get a Wehrmacht Service Manual "D" which apparently covers this trailer.
Thanks to all again and if you find anymore information please forward it on.

Good Day folks.....
I have been lurking here for a while and now I need your expert help with a German Trailer Identification. I am from the Colonies and we do not see many of these on this side of the pond. I am hoping that you guys may be more familiar with this and tell me what it is and what era is it from.
I have been given the opportunity to buy this trailer and need help identifying it.
The seller states that it is WWII and was brought back to the US by an Army Officer who was in the post war occupation force. He packed all his personal belongings into the trailer and shipped his stuff home that way.
The trailer is "Allegedly" a Mercedes (or Damlier)Benz trailer. Looks like 1/2 ton. It rides on a torsion bar. Has 40's era Mercedes wheels with hub caps. The trailers base coat is a dark blue green with hints of desert tan or camo light green under the red paint. It has openning front and rear doors and one side of the roof panel opens for access from above. It is sheet metal stretched inside a 3/4 inch angle iron super structure. There is no frame like on a WWII Ben hur. The towing bar runs from the the front hitch to the rear pintel.
The floor is 3/4' Oak slats It has no brakes. Where the sheet metal sides meet the bottom frame is rusted through all the way around and the sides will need replacing.
Any body know what this is?
Thank you for your time.
