  1. I need some reference help on parts for the CA-1 Dozer.

     

    I am looking for the crossover number for the head gasket on this Waukesha FC motor. Google is of no help.

     

    Any info on Felpro or a Clark source would be greatly appreciated.

    The liquid you see above is coolant from head removal.

     

    This was one of those "ran when parked" finds. No cover on the exhaust stack and the #1 and #4 exhaust valves were partially opened. The pistons were stuck at mid cylinder for all. A rust ring developed on 1 and 4. 2 and 3 were clean. An inch of Aero Kroil in all finally persuaded them that "resistance is futile" after 3 weeks. Gentle rocking of the crank nut every day finally worked. A hone took care of the rust and a micrometer of the inside of cylinders shows no bowling or out of round.

     

    I am going to put it back together and see if it will run. I want to make sure the rest of the drive train is a go before I refurb the motor. Parts are very tough to find.

  2. I have recently completed the restoration of my Air Corps Tractor. This is a 1943 CASE Vai that was equipped with a Case-Detroit Sickle mower. It was used to mow airfields where ever allied air craft were stationed.

     

    In the spring a set of NDT's on the front and she will be good to go. The search is on for a Case-Detroit 14.

     

    If anyone has pics of these in action I would love to see them.

  3. I have the opportunity to buy a 1942 Allis Chalmers B farm type tractor. There are some indications that it may have once been the AC Military Light Tractor M-2. This is from what looks like residual OD under the red then yellow then orange. Also there is holes drilled in a pattern where a dataplate may have been and larger holes which may have assisted in the mounting of the brush guard.

     

    I am looking for any pictures of restored or period pictures of that tractor.

     

    Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.

     

    Attached is a picture from the TM to aid in identification.

  4. I believe that the lockers were only on the Air Corps version of the trailers F-1 (double axle) and F-2 (Single Axle). The F-1A1 and F-2A1 were missing much of the steel sheet trim that the earlier versions had. The "A" models also had exposed piping.

     

    From TM 9-2800 Dated 1943 the only trailer pictured with a ladder is the F2A1

     

    That said here is a picture of an F2 at a junkyard not too far from me that has a ladder. It is unknown if original, depot improvement, or a post war civy add-on.

     

    Nice looking trailer...I am still trying to convince the owner to sell it.

    I desparately need a road wheel (solid) and a muffler. I am sure there will be other stuff too.

     

    Joris, I saw the auction. Unfortunately he is keeping the road wheels and does not have a good muffler. Thanks for going back and getting the link.

     

    John, I was at Winers 4 or 5 years ago too. As I remember most were M-6 HST's which are very different than the M-5. The person to talk to at Winers has not been around and is expected back shortly. I will call him again...Looks like it could be a road trip to Ohio

  7. Greetings All,

     

    I have recently purchased an M-5 High Speed Tractor to restore.

     

    Basically a good restoration candidate. Was a Daimler-Benz rebuild in 1956 and then assigned to the US 3rd Infantry, 41st Field Artillery in Germany for the remainder of the late 50's.

     

    Was brought back to the states by someone. And after sitting I now have it.

     

    Motor is locked but it comes with a NOS engine on a pallet.

     

    Looking for parts sources in Europe. Anyone have any suggestions?

  8. Spotted this in a secure junk yard in Maine USA and need help from the experts on this board.

     

    Sorry about the poor quality pictures but I was shooting through a chainlink fence. No access to yard.

     

    This is some type of Cable laying trailer. Has traces of OD paint on it and 16" NDT tires on what look like Jeep wheels. Looks Military.

     

    It is difficult to tell from the pics but it has a claw (hoe) that is lowered down below wheel level and the cable feeds through a hollow channel in the rear of the claw into the ground. The claw is inverted in the total upright postion in the pics.

     

    Anybody have any idea what era and specifics on what the trailer is. Is it WWII?

     

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    As a Yank on business in Holland I was lucky enought to get a car from my boss and head for Arnhem over the weekend. By sheer luck I ran into a couple of Brits who had their Humber Heavy Utilities there and had stopped at the same direction sign I had looking for the "drop zone".

     

    They invited me to join them...so I did. I was treated like one of the family and can't Thank them enough for a day of HMV activities that I will never forget.

     

    Bob and Arthur and crew invited me to Ride in the Humber in the "Race to the Bridge". It was a very moving experience for me as we don't have any true WWII Battlefields on the East Coast of the US.

     

    A truly amazing experience that I will never forget. (I got to ride in "Big Phil" the desert one)

  10. So that this US "Tourist" can hit the best activities...Could you guys elaborate on what would be the best event to view on Sunday the 16th. Specifically where?

     

    The company is letting me borrow their "pool" car for the weekend so I will be able to hit the Market-Garden area from where I am staying in Hengelo.

     

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I am the owner/webmaster of the CCKW.org site and have been sent here by one of the dual members to send this inquiry to your group.

     

    I would like to know some more about the Market-Garden 2006 events. Specifically the "Race to the Bridge".

     

    My new job starts next week. I am working for a German based company which makes Snow Removal equipment. I am part of their start-up plan in the United States. Much of the Equipment is manufactured at the company's plant in Holten Netherlands.

     

    Fortunately for me training will begin in Holten (50km from Arnhem) on September 9 and I will be staying in the area over the weekend of the 16th with nothing to do. I have been provided information through a separate source about the "Race to the Bridge" event and I would like to know more about it from someone who has participated in the past.

     

    Of course I will not have an HMV but would love to watch the event from the crowd. Any tips on a viewing spot or other inside info would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time to Holland and need some help.

     

    If there are any events or places that you think I should see that weekend please include them.

    What are the inspectors initials on the barrel?

     

    If it is "MC" it was inspected by my mother.....

     

    Listen no mother jokes here....I am very serious about this...My mother's "Rosie the Riveter" job was inspecting M1 Carbine barrels at the Underwood Typewriter factory in Hartford CT USA during WWII.

     

    I ask or look on every underwood barrel I come in contact with.

  13. My WWII Ambulance and Chevy Fire trucks have them. The WC-54 has a federal and the 2 fire trucks have Sterling Siren lights.

     

    I believe many were also equipped on tanks. I read somewhere that this was to add as a back up for signaling orders and somewhat to demoralize the enemy.

     

    And then of course there was General Patton..... On his Jeep, Command Car, and Half-Track. He also had air horns mounted on them all.

     

    AD...Are you sure that those cargo CCKW sirens weren't installed to attract the women????? :lol:
