  1. Oh at last - the CLETRAC KID turns up. Where have you been?

I've been trying to hold the fort but I know nothing about Cletracs.

I've been hiding under a pile of Chevy parts!!

I know Cletracs are just a pile of scrap without good tracks. I also know there are no NOS tracks out there!!!

    😃😃😃

  2. NOS you have a good memory for old posts!! Even I had forgotten that one.

Yes they are the same width and pitch just need to be longer and they will work. Michael in the US is aware of the need for Cletrac tracks and will keep us in the loop if his venture gets of the ground.

  3. Looking good Howard. Would be great if those couple of Chevy bits were available !!

Regarding the stainless exhaust system, assuming that you got it from Rex speak to Richard as I believe he had the first on that Rex sold and fitted it too his compressor truck. I know that he had some issues with it so he may be able to help.

  4. Hi Howard

Good to catch up yesterday and have a chat. As usual the standard of work is excellent and you have made rapid progress!! I look forward to seeing all the wiring going in and the dump bed being fitted.

It will be a great looking truck when you have finished it.

Well for all you doubters out there that know me progress has been made on this project. Even if not directly by me!

Howard and I decided to remove the axles so be could blast the chassis and ensure every bit was reached.

As you can see from the picture the axles have know been refitted the chassis has been blasted and painted.

Adrian has fabricated a new front bumper and new rear crossmember, so the chassis is now ready for the build up.

I will update this thread with photos of progress to this point as time allows.

  6. Interesting just checked my Chevy M6, says unlicensed!! Was SORN when I purchased it and never had a reminder. I'll be digging out the V5 and SORN it shortly!! This is obviously quite a common problem, I guess across the whole vintage vehicle world!

  7. Yes a chilly but dry day for the final open Sunday of the year at Debach airfield. A very good turn out of jeeps, 22 I think was the final count. I took the Dodge up for the day, we went out on a fifteen mile road run around the airfield and surrounding villages. It had been planned to do the run on farm tracks, but due too the ground being wet it was changed to a road run. So after the run it was fire the BBQ up and get a few sausages on!

My four year old son, William, deceided to go on a field walk near the control tower and sure enough after a few minutes shouted

' Daddy I have found a piece of an aircraft!'

Sure enough he had found a fragment of stainless steel complete with blast damage and green paint! He was over the moon with his find, followed by a piece of main wheel tyre!

He was very impressed when I told him which aircraft it probably came off and when it crashed!

The aircraft was most likely 'Devils Own' a B-17G 43-38219 flown out of Debach by the 493rd BG 862nd squadron. This partiular aircraft was flown by Lt J. DeWitt on the mission to Giessen in Germany on 12th December 1944. Unfortunately the aircraft developed an engine fire over the channel that started to engulf the wing. DeWitt made the decision to return to base with a full bomb load and as he approached the airfield was at tree top level, just making the field. He electted to land on the grass adjacent to main runway north east of the tower. Two minutes after the last crewman left the aircraft the entire bomb load went up, spreading the aircraft over a very large area, hence todays finds.

Here is a link to our website with further information and pictures of this crash. Check out the rest of our website, plenty to see and read!

  8. Cheers N.O.S just wasted yet more time on the PC! I found that site a long while ago and had totally forgotten about it until now.

What a great a project being undertaken by a legend in the warbird industry. I can remember meeting Tom Reilly at his workshop/museum in Florida a long while ago. In fact it was a quarter of a century ago!! He was undertaking the restoration of B-17 '909' and numerous other projects were in the hangar, P-40, Corsair and several others. In the yard lay the sad remains of a B-24 along with the hulk of a Navy priveteer, which I guess became the B-24 'Witchcraft'.

I purchased an A-10A oxygen mask in it's original box for 5 dollars and still have it in my collection! Anyway I must log the site in my favourites and look forward to bseeing it fly in the future.

  9. Good to catch up at Howards, great project and lightning progress. Puts my bomb truck to shame!! As I sadi I have a master cylinder kit for the Chevy with GMC boot. In the end I ordered a rebuilt kit from this guy in Argentina. A couple of emails sorted out the right kit. Kit fitted fine, but have yet to use the master cylinder.

If you want the kit I have just PM me.

    Keep up the good work.
