  1. The Canadians ended up with four or five in Belgium and Holland. The story goes that the RCD's wanted Staghounds but there were none to be had....so they took several M8's. There are two pics available showing this.

Sorry , never heard of the Brits having them in Western Europe.

  2. I do not recognize the following parts of the Merlin Service history report.

    169 14/06/94. A0555A. 1 RRF

    999. 22/06/94. A4420A. HQ CTG BG

3DIV99. 08/04/97 A4420B. RE CS TROOP HQ CTG BG

1 RRF was in Bosnia in 1995-6. The vehicle was on the books of 1 RRF for 8 days and with the second entry for three years and the third entry for another 6 years. What does the second and third entries mean?

What are the units and where would they be located?

    There was also a change code entry as noted;

    6/8/93. Code change from. 0854 3000 to 0854 7500. e38

What is the nature of the change?

    Thanks

    Alan

    03 FD 61

    03 FD 65

    04 FD 39

PM me if you own one or know where they are or what may have happened to them.

    Thanks Al

  4. My 54 MkI Ferret is sitting on blocks in my garage. I start it up every month or so and have never had an issue.

Two days ago I charged up the batteries and attempted to start it.

After several short attempts it fired up but when I released the starter switch the engine died immediately. It did this every time. It would start up and even rev up quite nicely as long as I kept the starter switch on.

I thought there must be something electrical and I was thinking I would install the nos ignition assembly sooner than later.

I asked a mechanic that I have had work on it before and his thoughts were that the starter motor or more specifically the the gear on the starter that engages the flywheel is not retracting and is in fact remaining engaged with the flywheel. The result being the engine dies immediately. He suggested that I give the starter a whack or two and maybe the gear will disengage.

So what are your thoughts.....should I give it a whack and try again or is there another approach?

    Thanks

  5. Hey Ross, I believe this is a different Striker. Vince also has his listed there as well. The sights on the one that Vince is selling is the early type.

The listing I am referring to has several vehicles for sale.

    Different vehicle.

  6. I will have to get the Merlin report to see. I have done that with some of my other vehicles. I do not have the vehicle yet but the pictures clearly show ample desert yellow color bleeding through. I would rather get a Mk 1/2 ferret that served in the Gulf in 91 but there are many pics of Mk 2s that were there.

If anyone has or knows of a Mk1 ferret with Gulf war service for sale please contact me.

    Thanks

  7. I am looking to fully equip my Scorpion with Clansman kit. I have a Clansman loaded Sabre. Would the equipment/pieces be basically the same?

I haven't taken possession of the Scorpion but am trying to have the comms installed before I squeeze it into a container and ship over here.

I would appreciate any diagrams or pics of the comms/radio configurations.

    Thanks

Here is an M4A2 76mm Wet HVSS variant of the Sherman. I purchased this last month and have a long term usage agreement with the Ontario Regiment Museum in Oshawa Ontario. My garage is big but definitely not Sherman size!

It was built in 1945 and is one of 300 purchased by the Canadian Government in 1946 for $1,400 each. They were used from 1946 to about 1972 until fully replaced by Centurions. I drove them while in the reserves with the Ontario Regiment.

It runs well but has a steering issue that is currently being sorted out. New tracks and other bits are waiting to go on.
