  1. Thank Dan, the Matador is looking amazing, I bet Joe is really pleased. If I can get mine looking this good I will be very happy.

Looks like you are making excellent progress with the Halley, it will not be long before you with have the steering in place. Any more thoughts on the engine and transmission ?.

Looking forward to the next update.

    Cheers

  2.

Hi Dan, I took my Matador to its first show this month (Overlord Show) in its pre restoration condition. Keep an eye on CMV or MMI as it received massive interest. I thought it would be good for people to see a truck before the restoration begins, I am so please I made the effort to get it there as it is not running so had to be pushed on to lo loader and so on.

As for progress, I am still doing the building work at home with the final part being a small barn at the bottom of the garden. My plan is to strip the Matador into chunks (automotive, chassis, cab, body, and so on). Putting It back together in the barn with the exception of the cab as will not get it passed the house so that will have to happen in the front garden. I am still using this time to find parts rather than wast time next year when the focus will be on strip, rebuild / remake and paint. Looking forward to getting started.

Keep up the work on the Halley, it's an inspiration to us all. Hope to get over to see you and Your dad in the next few months or when the rear body frames are ready.

    Best Regards

  3. Andy, you need to contact the british and commercial vehicle museum on 01772 451011 or

    email enquires@bcvm.co.uk

This museum has the AEC records although some records were lost around 1940. The museum is not open all the time and from memory monday or Thursday is worth a try. It will also cost about £20 (only take cheques) but it is worth it. I sent an email with all the matador info I had and a few weeks later build sheets in the post once cheque received.

    Good luck,

  4. Many thanks Richard, it was a great event and we were very lucky with the weather. More events cancelled this week due to the wind.

The team worked well to bring it together and was executed with only a few problems during the event. Good turnout of both traders and MV's and on the Saturday the main field almost maxed out.

How' s it going in France ? And any luck on the house hunt.

    Best Regards

  7. Great to see we are getting excited, all the planning is paying off and its all coming together. Oh the time to the ferry port from the show site should be no more than 25 to 30 mins using A3M and M27 ( it's about 9 miles) and on a Sunday morning there will be no traffic.

  8. Hi Robin,

Agreed on the change of ring gear and I thought this would be my appraoch. In this case it is cast in one peice and not sure why it has happened but the teeth are damaged or missing most of the way around (my guess is the starter has be loose but tight enough to earth). The engine turns nice and free too. I might have found a replacement fly wheel, just hope its the right one, will know for sure in the next day or so.

    Kind Regards

    Ian

  9. Hi Chaps, Thanks for the comments. Starter now away for refurb by a local company and should have back in 2 or 3 days. Now just need a new or replacement flywheel. looks like this flywheel was only fitted to VW 1.9 dg (petrol) motors and only made for a couple of years. Other option is to have the old flywheel machined and a new ring gear. Thanks again Ian
