Hi Mark. Vince here (Mikes voice of common sense, except when i am riding around the war and peace site with my head under your truck... :n00b:). There is a thread somewhere about posting pictures on this site. If you type "posting pictures" into the search box, it should find it for you. You basically click on the "additional options" at the bottom of the message box and attatch your files there, although there is a limit to the size and numer of files you can attatch per post.

Have you got got to the bottom of the front axle whine from your truck yet? :-)

WOW! That rig is going to be awesome when its all done. Its very rare to see a truck and trailer with the correct load (ie tank) displayed at shows, although I'm sure its much more fun to have the sherman on the ground so you can play with it.

A couple of years ago, one of my 2 Land Rover 101s was used exclusively to transport our sofa to shows. The sofa itself has been to more shows than most of our vehicles, including shows in France and Jersey. Mikes WLF has now taken over the honour of carrying it, sitting beneath the trucks' crane. It has recently been given a "viking funeral" :yawn2:, but has been replaced by a new one :wave:. Who said you cant camp in style? :beer:

I agree. There aren't enough lovely ladies in this hobby. I have all these big green babe magnets 8-) but nothing seems to stick to them :-(.

 

Its your knees. They are totally repellent to woman, man and beast. The big green babe magnets do not even come into the equation. :eek2:

How about a dating section. I know many single MV batchelors... :flower:

Just been reminded by mine that it would be nice for her to see me once in a while, instead of me dissapearing at silly hours of the morning to work or play. And then there's the evenings...

I think some of the ladies do a sterling job of putting up with us.

Enjoyed at the weekend- playing with fire, big hammers, mud, large trucks and winches, taking the canvas roof off to enjoy big truck with winch in sun (moving Nicks new WLF), meeting HMVF guys.

Not looking forward to- Building engines for CVRTs before Beltring, going to work this morning.

The toys get bigger, more complex and numerous. Then you start requiring new categories of driving licence and low loaders....

Must say what a good job Paul McDonald did as pathfinder/lead vehicle driver on the journey to Nicks place. :tup: I know from experience that it is not easy to drive a modern vehicle in front of an old, slow moving one (no offence intended (for a change Mike)...) and stay in visual range, while also not going too slow that it cannot maintain momentum on hills. It does not come naturally to hold up traffic while driving something modern.

Yesterday was a glorious day. :-D Just the right weather for extracting Mr Hobbs new Ward la France from where it had lain for at least the last 10 years, if not longer.... The ground was too soggy to tow the vehicle out, so winching was the order of the day. Luckilly, we had brought just the tool for the job, another Ward la France. :tup:

Nicks new toy is dragged, protesting from its resting place. The rear wheels were not turning.

It became apparent that the rear most axle was seized in some way, so we took the decision to remove the rear wheels and investigate the problem further....easier said than done!!! :box: Anybody who has dealt with Amercan vehicles with twin rear wheels will be aware or the twin nut/stud system they employ. They really don't like coming off after a decade or so. We discovered a propane burner in a nearby garage, but as no one was a smoker, we had no means by which to light it! :banghead: We eventually found a lighter, and Nick got busy with the heat.

Next, it was time to break out the big hammers, and slowly, the hubs were freed off. Its the only time I can recommend spraying WD40 into brake drums.

:-)Hate to tell you Mark, but the "popular carbonated drink" in the red bottle worked a treat. Unseized 4 of 5 pistons after a 24 hour soak (one was not seized). One still won't come out , but hopefully a longer soak will do the trick.

I noticed on the label that it contains phosphoric acid- isn't phosphor the stuff used in grenades??? :eek2:

I know that some landies have moss growing in the window channels... :schocked:

Convoy position does disable indicators. On my old Landies a swift boot tap to the relay would usually bring them back to life. Sounds like you have an altogether more complex issue to resolve. Good luck.

Fourth and fifth gear ratios are very close together, so try changing gear a bit quicker between those two. All the other gear ratios are spaced further apart, so the change is a it slower. Its been a while since i drove a jimmy, but i seem to remember having the same problem. :police:

I am currently trying to unseize some pistons in a Jaguar J60 engine. Someone suggested i try using coca cola as this eats rusts. Any other suggestions? (yes i have tried a bigger hammer... :whistle:)

The easy answer is to rid ones self of wheeled vehicles and move into tracked ones.... 8-)

If the swingfire 432 is a 438, then i think one of the forum guys has one. Cant remember who though. It was at beltring last year.

There is nothing more rewarding than driving a crash box and getting it right. When you get really good, you dont need the clutch (except stopping and pulling away), as you do it by sound and feel. AEC Matadors have a nice box to drive like this.

I called a couple of my land rovers "trusty" and they didn't break down. Never told anyone that before, but i can now as i have sold them, so it wont bother me if they do. I think they liked being spoken to nicely (in private) :-D.

Mike, you don't need a doorstop for your bedroom- all the MV parts in there prevent the door from closing... :shocking:
