What a shame, I too feel for the crew and hope no one is hurt too much, unfortunately not good publicity for our hobby, I would expect the scammell at a slow speed will be held in many peoples eyes as at fault even though hit from the rear.

As far as being well lit is concerned being seen is the motto however you could have a lighthouse strapped to the back, but if that tailender is asleep coming up behind you I'm afraid it's not your day.

So the question was which would be more saleable? I am sure in its original guise ( Hercules) if the vehicle has not been bastardised.

however it may be more saleable as a project with no engine giving the possibility to anyone interested??

Interesting how a thread gets you thinking!! I reckon if you have an interested next generation in a hobby today that's fantastic as they get a real kickstart up the ladder, as most vehicle related hobby's are only getting dearer. But if that's not the case and your concerned at your collection of whatever being at risk of being thrown out surely there would be enjoyment of passing this on as a gift to an interested party who would never be able afford it.

i can only drive one of my vehicles at a time , and these days get as big a buzz out of seeing someone I trust jumping in and taking the wheel as I do myself, hence my comment.

Nick, your trailer should be full air over a rod system on the rear and air over hydraulic on the front.

i had mine fully to bits this past year to overhaul brakes etc, I see you are missing the fluid reservoir on the front nearside.

wheel bearings are all taper and adjustable if they are sound.

i have seen many people give up with the hydraulic front brakes and only run the rears as a much easier route when things go wrong!

Perhaps open up all the wheel stations and see , if mine was anything to go by everything was seized fron sitting, all just needed stripping out de seizing, hone the cylinders and reassemble with rubber grease, that did the trick, although I bet that was a days work per drum on the fronts.

So here is the final part of the refresh for me, i had been fairly full on with the job since January and as everyone knows the time frame you set in mind just falls into insignificance not to mention the budget:shocked: We always had the completion as set to be before the last bank holiday in May as a good friend of mine required it for the film The Monuments Men, just to say the paint was only just dry, and over the three day weekend some good friends rallied round and we put in 40 hours to finish it off, including my kids expertly installing the canvas. Midnight came on bank holiday Monday and the shed lights went out, lowloader came Tuesday at 0930, so its road test was a mere three quarter mile drive to Adrian's to be loaded with an M8. Luckily all went fine with only a minor hitch of an intermittent failing coil which thanks to Hummermark and his filmset tool kit we changed. Currently trying to finish the Rubery Owen trailer, and squeeze a 16' touring caravan inside, again much more work than I thought! then onto another project, however some family time first:wave:

Howard, if its a wartime model she will have narrow wings, and to the best of my knowledge these were all painted standard green. I have one in a shed at home but sorry it's wearing its working clothes of rust patina!

I take it the jeep in front was marked up for all the single people to make it easier to find the ladies:-D

We had the great pleasure of selective road calming last Saturday to escort our great friends Tim and Suzanne from their wedding in Lindfield village to the reception on Ashdown Forest. I thought it was quite amusing seeing my good wife try to climb aboard the GMC in high heels and a tight skirt, only to be bettered by the bride in her wonderful dress being shoehorned into the back seat of their jeep with the roof up!

I have bought two batches of duck egg blue from R&R services the first 17 years ago which then needed refreshing on the explorer two years ago, and i only primed with zinc phosphate and applied one thick top coat straight on the first time, so for longevity i can recommend.

I have been to see a 1960's photographic trailer awaiting its fate of the cutting torch, sound chassis on 1400x20's windows on off side, rear door, needs a small repair to roof otherwise dry, Owner would like it to go to a good home but with the scrap being at £180 A tonne, it must weigh in a five tonnes so to me too expensive for the work required, Let me know any interest and I will put you onto the contact,

In some assistance to Nicks question on Explorer steering, just make sure the box has oil in it as well, from past experience if she has sat this can weep and dry out, it makes all the world of difference.

Help please, would a kind sole be able to measure for me the distance from the top of the rear body timber slatted sides to the underside of the metal connector to the roof hoop, I.e. how long is the timber extension that is visible, these are currently missing in my kit of parts.

It's rumoured that Mack had a huge amount of money spent on the restoration and paint, so not sure why the engine used to sound like a box of Chinese fire crackers..hopefully fixed by now.

This Mack still has the original petrol lump in her, last we saw it running albeit not well and being recovered from Ardingly a few years back.

Lamas Motors in Redhill had an auction last year where one more Mack unrestored and a Reo both bought from Smarts and still in their faded livery came out of store and were auctioned off, to the best of my knowledge both sold.

Going back to Snowtracdaves original post/question , whilst I am all for traditional word of mouth and handshake deals, I am afraid there seems far too many people today who don't even know how to shake hands!! So have no idea of good manners nor be able to even pronounce etiquette, so what chance do we have!!

My only advice in today's world as a buyer is act as you see the advert to view and pay there and then on the deal done.
