A word of warning, do not buy unseen, we sell a large range of Perentie spares, and even Export to the UK. As far as I am aware the ones for sale in the UK, were not Inspected before Export, thats not to say there all bad, but I never buy a vehicle in the UK without a on site Inspection. Theres good ones and bad ones out there.

The hard top in that picture, is Not a perentie hard top, but a TD5 UK build 110 Defender, with Military mods.

Very rare not many built. less so than the Perentie hard tops.

The landy in the last photo was used by our Regimental Police. It was the only vehicle taken to Somalia that was configured in that style. The reason why the RP's drove that particular rover was because the RP's had the role of caring for the Battalion mascot (Shetland Pony, the mighty Septimus). The vehicle had to tow Seppy's horse float around and for some reason they used that Rover, instead of a stock standard one.

 

Your vehicle is from 51FNQR. That's interesting. I am aware that one of the 51 vehicles was written off due to an accident about 15 or more years ago. That was the only vehicle released at auction in that configuration. That vehicle went to auction and was deemed a write off. A gent by the name of Steve Kersly (nickname 'Surat') purchased the damaged vehicle and subsequently stripped it down bolt by bolt and then did a full rebuild to original specs. He had the vehicle for about five years and on sold it. Steve is a Queensland Police officer and I think is currently the officer in charge of the Kowanyama police station. It might be worth given them a ring to find out if its the same vehicle. Either way, he would have to be Australia's expert when it comes to these Landrovers. He is a great bloke too. Tell him that Tim White passed your name on.

No mine was from the first batch of 6 to come out of Townsville, so only de mobbed late last year. The PM land rover its got the side bush bars as fitted to the RFSV did it have anything else different?

Had a restriction on access times imposed so progress has been a little slower this week, especially with the random weather.

 

Removed the the old chevron boards to reveal more surface rust than usual on & around the stabiliser leg cylinders so removed all that & am edging my way around the off side now...

I remember when these vehicles first came out. They were exclusive to the 51st Battalion the Far North Queensland Regiment, who I served with for three years, the Pilbara Regiment (Western Australia) and Norforce (Northern Territory). These three units were dedicated Army Reserve Units with small full time staff detachments. Employing mainly indigenous soldiers, these were pure long range recon vehicles designed to endure the rigors of remote Australian terrain. When they first came out, I was posted to the 1st Battalion Recon Platoon (fulltime) and we were issued with the stock standard vehicles. We hated and envied the Reserve soldiers with these show pony trucks. The Isuzu motored landrovers were great. We took them to Somalia and never had an issue with them. Great vehicles.

Yes he Imported a few, and some wrecks that need parts to get back on the road.

Marc from the defender center has a few 4x4 perenties in stock theylook in very good nick.

I know they have some over there now, I can't comment on the condition of them, I know they were purchased unseen, but he may have dropped on lucky and got some good examples.

A few updates on the RFSV. I also see a number of standard Perenties are now being offered for sale in the UK. Bought unseen, be careful.

Fitted the proper boat racks, genuine Hi-Lift Jack.

You dont see many of these around.

Oh i forgot to say its amazing to drive, I love it to bits, its only for speed box, and ideally it needs a turbo, one day it will get one, but for now its perfect, its better to live with than a series and the turning circle is better than my 130..

Every month we have sales at different locations around the country, you bid online for the vehicle you want, most are GS and FFR, with some 6x6 as well, you can inspect and start the vehicles but not drive them.

Registering seems to be very hit and miss, some people have had no problems at all others issues, pen pushers who have no idea of the rules.

Recent hard top survey, most have been sold of just a few left, along with the 5 door Perentie station wagons.

Designed as a long range patrol variant, twin fuel tanks, different bull bar with high lift jack mount, side bush bars, 3x spare wheels, Steel split rims, higher roof line to allow for rear facing crew seat, double jerry can mounts, internal power socket, disk brakes all round, power steering, the gs and ffr dont have this, upgraded says axles.

What year were the the Leyland DAF's made from? the 4 ton ones..

There are more capable museum experts than me on here but the museum must either have been a company of some sort or a charity of some sort. In either case there are legal obligations that can be exercised to either recover the item or at least discover its fate (and if money changed hands).

 

You might also check if the museum was a member of the Museums Association; they have codes of conduct.

 

Rather sadly though even national museum insitiutions are not immune from this sort of poor practice (and its not for me to say whether it is conspiracy or cock up), and anyone wanting to give themselves a nasty feeling might take a look at the fate of many of the items forming the RCT collection (and others) that used to be in the Museum of Army Transport at Beverley. Once upon a time it was widely regarded as the best collection of its kind on the planet. Now where is it??

Indeed, I visited there with my dear Granddad when he was walking this planet, it was a fantastic museum, and now its all gone... to whom.
