The Jap is the make of engine stands for (James Alan Prestwich if I remember right).
I have one the same, as has been said they were for battery charging purposes. They are a bit later than wartime, late '50s or '60s I think but would have to check to get an exact date.

Don't suppose you have any catalogues for the Bowhouse sales, or for that matter anything on the CVD at Irvine ( sometimes called Eglington).
I've been looking for a few years without success.

I could be wrong, but I think these 20" wheels were made and sold as replacements for solid wooden wheels on farm carts. I think they were an alternative to the 19" well base rims marketed by Dunlop for the same purpose.

Don't know what they were originally designed for, but my Dad came home from his five years as a MT mechanic in the RAF in 1955 with one and I have picked up another two since. Dad can't remember why or how he acquired his but reckoned they were quite common issue as tool boxes for instrument etc. He was attached to a mobile RADAR unit so that may have something to do with it.
At least one of mine has a 1943 date on it.

Saw the ad in the SMVG newsletter, sorry to see you part with them but fully understand your reasons. Hope they find a good home and we might see them out and about again. At least you can continue to be a fund of information and knowledge on the forums.

As with all commercial vehicles, the load on the rear axle when the vehicle is loaded is far greater than that on the front axle therefore the breaking effort on the rear axle needs to be far greater than on the front axle, hence the greater pressure in the rear brake line and the larger shoes. This is the opposite of modern cars where up to 90% of the breaking effort can be on the front axle.

Interesting that it only states the numbers are to be displayed on the OFF SIDE and rear of the vehicles, no mention of the number being on near side.

Used to go there on Cadet Force Camp in the late 1970's
A desolate place then with very dubious latrine arrangements!!

The Idea of the event was to show the camp from Wartime to present day, so although it was mostly wartime vehicles, there were '50 and later too, right up to 110 Land Rovers.
As for being desolate, that's just a state of mind. You couldn't have asked for more picturesque surroundings, and cadets always moan about the latrines!!

Going by the blanking plate over the starter mount, could it be out of a generator set.

The axles were basically RL, and back in those days diff locks were things that only got you deeper into trouble!

I hadn't noticed the pics were in Ian's post.
I fitted a repaired wheel to my QL last year and put the old one aside for repair when I got round to it, I'll see what it's like.
And no Ian, that steering wheel nut never did turn up!

The MCC on the replacement wheel center would be the clue, - Morris Commercial Cars.
I may have a wheel that is a bit better than your old one but I will have to have a look.

The choke is "off" when the lever is fully clockwise, ie. has pulled the inner cable as far as it will go.
I made the same mistake when I first put my CO together, being used to horticultural machinery I assumed the choke was off when the lever was returned back to the stop, and wondered why the bike wouldn't run without choke!

Thanks D&J for the reply, Roy does have have some, however I managed to find four in a box of miscellaneous brushes at a local MV dealer, so crises averted for now. - until the next time

Hi Folks,
Does anyone have a stock of, or know of a source for brushes for a generator No2 Mk2 as fitted to my champ. I thought I had nothing more to do than use the brushes from my spare but seized generator, also a No2 Mk2, however they are a completely different brush and brush holder. The brushes I need are as per the photo.

The Scottish Military Vehicle Group are holding their annual Swap Meet this coming Sunday 3rd March at the Institute Hall, Bridge of Earn, Perthshire. (2 mins off the M90 at Jcn 9)
There will be the usual selection of vehicle parts, militaria and collectables, with a selection of military vehicles on display. It's always worth paying a visit, even if it's just for a chat and a cup of tea at the NAAFI.

Admission 10am to 4pm, Adults £1 accompanied under 16s free.
