This was taken in the "Alamo" which was the RCT vehicle lines, Jubilee Camp, inside the UNPA. The REME wkps were just down the road. When were you there? I was in 7 Sqn RCT.

I was there in 1990 attached to 22 ad regt ,had some fun times up on the un lines we was based at B32 the box factory

Is that photo of the t2 at the REME workshops Camp David

I was under the impression that most of the British army's Vehicle in Berlin was bought by the German ,thats why they had mainly German vehicles and a slight variant in the number plates like z or y ,im going back to 1984 until 1994

What time is the next flight due in ????

No as crow flys we are 10 miles north on North bank Blacktoft 40 odd miles by road But have opened a satalite base at Sandtoft near Trolley bus musem we seemed to spend a lot of time round your way just lately Tescos home delivery vans have nearly kept a truck going full time during the bad bad weather geting stuck on ice and hills in housing estates etc
I sometimes get to sandtoft roof tiles now and again , i work for cemex tanker delivery's , bet your flat out at the minute . I was going to apply for the job of rec driver at gallows wood as i fancied a change in direction ( ie a good challenge) ,but the money wasnt to good, and i have a young family and goverment to support lol, wouldnt mind popping in one day for a brew, the only rec work i did was with a 600.25 fassi picking up stranded M.A.N units that coudnt be driven and putting them on my lowloader , did a bit in the army but when the moneys right wouldnt mind having anoher go at it
-
Cos rec , are you from scunny then or near it

Might be worth you having another look at the first picture, that's big bits of bridge hanging over the cab, known as side transomes. Now, have a look at the model on the table
Just thinking the same after i noticed the trailer behind the wagon ,never even looked at the table
-
If that is a Royal artillery Aec , the first picture im thinking it may have been a launch platform for a drone possible 94 loc regt or 32 hy regt as the launch platform extends over the front of the cab

DD Did you ever find out the 1 in 5 of those snow posts was concrete my lance carrier use too ,an i would here a satifactory thump as i drove over it , the thing was with the m113 chassis the tracks would grab at the back and sling it upwards , not to good for the 4 tonner behind you lol. Remember setting up an exclusion zone for mating main missile assemblies and warheads together , me and a mate knew that the next lad on stag ( grave yard shift) was **** scared of the dark , so we decided to peel the bark of a tree and smeere the resadue on our faces & hands , which incidentally glowed in the dark, of i went to wake him for stag and rushed back to the trench we both laid in the parapit at the front of the trench, waiting for him to arrive and settle in to his routine , i mean routine, he was having a tug and fag to warm the body up , with our glow in the dark hands a face we leapt up and frightened the lad half to death, we pissed ourselves laughing as he leapt out the trench and shot off into the woods , we didnt see shirley ( his nick name)for about half a day . Never under estimate a squaddies imagination when there bored. good times , could write a book about this stuff

Sounds like units sometimes spotted in the Trossachs heading to/from the Clyde carrying buckets of sunshine. Will be well escorted and if you have been involved on sites with the military guarding these types of things you know the rules!
They use to have 8 wheeled foden arctic's plus 4 axled tralers as a safety factor
-
I wish I could tell you more about these vehicles but I can't:cool2:. Some of your information is correct and some not.
What info isnt right then ???

Is the heat exchanger knacked

It looks like a telescope of sorts with it being a range finder , it might be able to give a tank commander better distances between targets as there is dead ground between the user and target and could probably compinsate for this , just my 2p worth might be totally wrong :undecided:
-
14th saw a 8 wheel mercedes arctic unit bobtailing down the M6 ,+ a foden fitted with eka ,both in bronze shiny green ,Foden was more civvy spec these 8 wheelers with 4 axle trailers are used for moving missles if my memory serves me right ,all escort vehicles plus drivers are authorised to use deadly force as well :cheesy:

This was standard practise during the cold war , we had loads as well :-D

Yep, remember lying on the old steel beds in the Attic in one of the Blocks over Christmas doing site guard for the Yank Missile base up the road. (SHUSH! Must not mention the location!) 50 Missile is also Long closed. Sad to see a chain round the gate & weeds growing up through the cobbled roads! :embarrassed: It was a fair few years since I visited, I wonder what it's fate is now? Probably bulldozed & made into Civvy Houses! :embarrassed:
Its all civvy housing now , the parade square is flats , and industrial units, the site at hemer if you remebmer went into a dip , but now is level, they filled it in its all gone .
-
I went up to 22 ad prior ( dortmund) to the gulf war and some of the chassis were completley stripped ,same chassis as lance, m113 me thinks, as for buying civy stuff back , they might of done , i knew some of the crews ,and the problem with tracked rapier was getting the kit calibrated and working after movements on excercise . never understood why Bae kit had yank running gear.
-
What Mob were you with there in Hemer? I was REME Attached to 1 WFR & later 2 LI. The Irish Rangers were next door for years. the later the RRF I belive.
Mike
I was in 50 missile at Menden , someone mentioned 50 msl being in Celle , They was only ever stationed in Menden Think 94 locating was at celle ,you maybe thinking of 39 msl regt or 24 msl regt 24 msl got dispanded and 39 regt reroled ,
-
I have a Dutch variant of it.
Had the pleasure of cornering and blocking 2 of these soxmis cars in hemer behind the sally army /church army place , whilst i was teaching some young lads to drive a 432 on public roads , Rmp's didnt hang about either , we all got a citation for being vigilant , just pure luck we saw them .
