I live 8 miles away from Beltring and it's currently thunder/ lightning and torrential rain here - waters running into the pub!!!
Im starting to wonder if this is going to be worth it - restricted movement etc is no fun tbh
-
Doesn't this mean that there will be even less arena runs for vehicles? It was bad enough last year ....

Mark,
Only one dipstick as a Fox differs from a Ferret, in that it is one common oil flowing through gear and transfer boxes.
thats great thanks Richard - I will stop my search now!

Hi
Just been sorting out the fox for the bunker bash and im still trying to find a second dipstick on the transfer box - the one on top just next to the turret swivel is easy to find but on the diagram on my manual there is a second one marked on the side of the transmission? Despite getting all the floor plates off I still cant locate and second dipstick on any part of the machinery under the turret floor plates..
Does anyone know where or if there should be a second filler under the floor plates somewhere?
cheers

Mark,
I wasn't trying to put you off, just factor in around £4 per mile for fuel and other running costs. You will need to collect spares when you see them as they can be expensive and hard to find when you need them.
Remember that they are current in service vehicles, and although the MoD use diesel variants, everyone else is still on the petrol ones. This means when things like exhaust manifolds etc do come up for sale they are expensive. Withams are scrapping lots of J60 engines, so you would be best buying 3 or 4 for parts, even just for carbs and ignition modules etc.
You can drive one on L plates, I did for a while before taking the test in my own vehicle. That way I knew it well enough to book a test myself and do it on the streets around my house, saving around £600.
Spartan is probably the best entry level vehicle, they are cheap, plenty of room, easier to learn to drive as you can see the instruments and controls... you can't in a turreted variant.

Hi
I wouldnt take it that way Chris youve been a great help with the Fox already - its just Ive always wanted

It certainly looked good Jon but I think your price expectations may be a tad high for my budget! looks great tho - i do like those trucks as well - bees knees as they say

Hi
Good selection of replies with different views - thanks for this - it doesnt sound too daunting but as ever a good condition one is going to be alot eadier to run I guess
max miles a year for me is 250 if that
Perhaps a final point is that at least there are spares for the CVRT - Fox parts are becoming very difficult to get hold of

ok but the same could be said of a fox? theres no new gearboxes at all , Ive had to replace a complete hub assembley due to the knocking sound etc so the fox aint great either - I agree with road wheels and track expenditure but if they are in a good condition when bought then there shouldnt be too many problems? I dont have a spare engine fif the fox so do rhey wear out so quickly on a CVRT?
Would not the samd be true if a 432?

Hi
As you may know I currently have a Fox CVRW but have always aimed at getting a CVRT - there are a number available and Im assuming there will be more in the winter - engine wise I think Im ok to check but what else should I look for in terms of problems with the CVRT?
- final drive is something Ive heard of
sorry bit of a large topic but I havent found much on any checks to do for the cvrt
any thoughts let me know
cheers

Mark,
Buy a replacement filter, there is a new O-ring in the box which you should fit to the housing. Also place a copper washer under the bolt head before refitting.
http://www.ekmpowershop5.com/ekmps/shops/greenmachines/cvrtcvrw-oil-filter-1383-p.asp
You may think £25 for a filter is expensive, but the minimum order from the manufacturers is to buy 10 at £30 each, so it's actually pretty a good deal!
Chris
Hi,
Its not the expense thats the problem - its more the timing - I was supposed to bring the Fox down this weekend and I dont think the filter will arrive in time so was hoping instant gasket would work for now
- I have dowty washers which I think will work as well as a copper one or is this not the case?
cheers

Hi,
Lee and I both noticed a leak on the Fox - I've had the back armour off and eventually after much messing around the leak is from the oil filter - both from the bolt at the top and the sides of the flange - it wasnt obvious until we tightened up the bolt on the oil filter and watched it dripping away (could only see this with the back armour off as it wasnt obviuos looking on top)
I want to go and fix it tomorrow soooo...
- Can I use instant gasket to fix the leak? i.e. gasket around the flange and the bolt..
- any ideas on what to look for to fix the problem?
any help appreciated
cheers

I didnt take many was far too drunk most of the time and when sober was busy driving - there were official photographers and a film crew so should be something posted up soon

Get yourself a copy of this book...
There are pictures of Foxes in there, can't remember if they are in the Berlin colour scheme but will check later.
Cool will do - that paint scheme might take a while though - but looks great
-
The sand colour is BS381C shade 361 light stone. I am sure Marcus will be able to supply it. Do you have any photos of Foxes in that scheme?
Chris
Hi,
Not at the moment - apparently the scheme was used but I've no real evidence of this - however I think the scheme looks good...the idea came from complaints last year that theres too many "green" machines so I was looking into other camo schemes that were used on ferrets and could be applied to the Fox
thanks for the info
cheers

Hi,
I'd like to try this paint scheme on the Fox - Ive used Marcus Glenn paints before particuarly spray which is really good but he doesnt have the type of colour for the light tan coulur on the pic below (the light stone he has is more of a BATUS yellow colour) - does anyone know what colour this is and who might supply it or shall I just go for a commercial paint?
any thoughts?
cheers

Bit short sighted that saying no kids 'we are a living history group' no kids no future movement. I take it all the 're-enactors' will be around the age of twenty when they reenact? If not is it going to be a troop of Dads Army with beer guts and grey hair?
Thanks Lee got your PM - and yes I think its a bit much - they wear uniforms and dont run around acting stupid either - they were actually quite a hit during the schools day as the kids felt they could ask them questions more than the adults
-
Jon wasnt kidding - a veritable treasure trove - I'm going back next week - and the Fox is now completely fixed
thanks for all the help - lets hope I have a better year this time round
cheers

Not an unusual failure on a Fox. Tracta joint picks up, spot weld between a fork and knuckle, something has to give and tube breaks away from sphere on the challis.
Yep thats it - the noise associated with the problem is a loud banging sound when the steering is near full lock - what causes it is a mystery I assume it was lack of oep220?
-
I have several second-hand complete wheel stations (and lots of new driving parts) for Fox.
I had a lot more last weekend before the pikeys got on top of my container and nicked about half a ton of bits!
If anybody finds some Fox wheelstation parts in a Kent scrapyard, let me know!
Regards
Jon
Hi
If you still have the right hand side station as you're facing the fox then I'd like to buy it if possible?
