  1. Hi Adam

I have a vested interest in this particular "small war" as my Saladin first saw service there.

Any links or pictures from this time would be gratefully appreciated.

Just to whet your appetite though here is an in service picture of my Saladin on patrol in the Crater district.

As you can see she has seen some action with small arms hits to the front mudwing.

It would be good to be able to find out more about both her service and other events over there.

Hope to have more people posting to this with interesting tidbits

    Regards

  2. If it's the one Nick Mead was selling it did'nt come with a cannon, it only had the normal browning turret on top.

As for it being a possible SA version, I somehow doubt it due once again to size of turret and gun depicted in picture.

Whereabouts in London are you Val? As if not too far we can arrange a visiting Accumulator charging service, not cheap mind

  3. John,

I happen to know of a pile of bits, if you're looking for anything specific. I know there are NOS wings in the pile.

    Chris

    Hi Chris

Got all new mudwings ready to fit (all 4 corners at least) but could do with the straight panels if you know of them.

I also need a couple of internal bits but will PM you with those.

  4.

Got to love a rare bit of kit eh Andy

Production run of Saladin was far lower than most WW2 vehicles but then again times had changed, If memory serves me well I seem to recall it being around the 1145 mark.

The Saladin in Withams Tender does look as though it is need of a lot doing to it as the Drivers hatch is missing ( hard to find let alone fabricate), All commanders periscopes missing and quite a bit of corrosion on the Mudwings, and thats just from the picture.

Until I get a chance to look at it in detail who knows what the interior ios going to throw up.

Whilst bits can be still obtained for these old girls they are getting scarce and at times non existent so unless you happen to know of a pile of bits just hanging around be prepared to continue to spend to get what you need.

  5. Just recieved this from HQ at Pirbright

On behalf of all at ATR Pirbright we would like to thank you for attending our open day. It was a great day and your contribution was greatly appreciated by all.

Thanks again for all your help and hard work.

Jo Viner, WO2 K Wann & SSgt Little

Yanno ..............it gives one a warm fuzzy feeling when people appreciate your efforts dont it??

For those who took part there is a little extra on the message but I am sure you can all guess what that is . Needless to say, three square meals a day, accomodation and £1 a pint, what more could we want

  6. Excellent, are you all up for a bit of showing off in the arena?

    Richard

    Hi Richard

Good to see some from Essex area appreciate our efforts though you would'nt think so considering the phone conversations and mails we have recieved today.

Wil we up to showing off in the arena??

Well that will of course depend on

A/ Whether the vehicles will be allowed to remain at Daymn's Hall until the weekend.

    and

B/ A suitable reply is recieved regarding todays correspondence.

All being Ok though I am sure we will of course do what we can for OUR area.

BTW we might be bringing Beltring mud with us but at least we did'nt manage to contaminate it with the Surrey outbreak of F&M.

  7. As a follow on from the Horse Guards event, those that attended have been invited to display their vehicles for the Army at this upcoming open day.

The Essex contingent already have their vehicles in storage there as we are never one to turn down an opportunity to assist.

Other bits of kit already onsite are Challenger 2, Cheiftain, Supacat and one of the best looking Abbot's I have ever seen ( honestly it looks like its just come out of a showroom)

The Army report that there will be approx. 39 vehicles on display altogether with both a rolling display and static one planned.

This is themed as a "Family" day for the recruits undergoing basic training so there will be other attractions onsite as well.

Unfortunately this is one that is invitation only and not open to the general public.

We will endeavour ro provide as many pictures as possible on our return and a brief report will also be posted.

  8. No such thing as a reasonably priced Blank firers... Stens from £450.00 Thompsons from £850.00 there's NO .30 or .50cals... sidearms from about £150.00

Just found this place as they have got both a .30 cal and MG42 as blnak firers. I am a little scared to ask the price though especially when you look at what they are asking for a M4A1 .

    .30 cal and MG 42

Now that makes even War Dept's prices seem reasonable :dunno:

  9. Well...my first W&P in an MV...loved every minute apart from the 4 hour drive home because the ferret was playing up. Next year I will have to plan better and get down there for a week.

I would like the thank the Essex boys for letting us pitch up with them, and making us welcome....I did not realise they were all celebrities until I looked back through my CMV mags.....I wonder if ANY of the essex lot have NOT been in a feature!!!! :-)

Mick you were more than welcome especially the entertainment you offered us when you decided to get into your tent

Might be able to do you a deal on a decent 9x9 for next year ;-)

As for being famous, as the saying goes, some of us have greatness thrust upon us. (truth of the matter is that John has not got a passport to travel outside Essex yet ) Anyway if you've got it flaunt it :-D :-D :-D

Look forward to seeing you again soon.

  10. Really sorry to hear your bad news Neil. Please know that you and the Family are in both Paul and my prayers.

It's never easy losing a parent especially a Father, I know from experience.

Once again my deepest sympathies at this time.

    John

  11. Only joking John, however there may be a change of plan. I should be going down in Chris's lightweight. But I walked past the Ferret this evening and thought 'Chris isn't going in his fox, that means he has a spare pass'. Maybe Fezz could take its place. Chris has agreed and is encouraging me :-D :-D :-D

No reason why Fezz should'nt make the trip Andy, after all Sally made it all the way to Horseguards so Fezz will only get jealous if you dont take her out for a decent run

Will be good to see you all again anyway

  12. John,

I don't mind him driving it around, but I'm not sure how much fuel is left in the jerry can and I've got to empty all the kit out the back to change it. I think everyone should own at least one CVRT........ I may have a good Sultan project for sale soon!

Andy will be coming down with us, so he won't be brining anything else. If we had our own transport we'd try and bring all our vehicles down, but trying to drive them all the 200 odd miles is asking for trouble!

    Chris

Fully understand re the transport thing Chris, we keep saying that the next thing on the list is an LET at least but we have yet to see a decent one come up at the right price.

I also agree re the CVRT's so who knows we might just get there before next year .

Will see you when you all get there.
