  4. Opened in 1911, Shoreham Airport (civilian) was requisitioned by the Air Ministry in June 1940 for use as an advanced airfield in the Tangmere Sector. The airfield was defended by various pillboxes around its perimeter, and at least one Pickett-Hamilton Fort. Sorry images are not in any particular order.
  5. Made a second visit back here, hope you like the photos and they may be alittle out of order as im alittle tired. Then moved on and found several of these.
  6. This last box was found on a caravan site. This pillbox is situated on a private golf course which over looks Camber Sands beach and Rye Harbour. These boxes were near the golf course. This pillbox was near the main town of Rye in someones back garden. And this one was towards the golf course.
  7. The Royal Military Canal is a canal running 28 miles between Seabrook near Folkstone and Cliff End near Hastings, following the old cliff line bordering Romney Marsh. During the early stages of World War II, when German invasion was looking likely, the canal was fortified with concrete pillboxes. This second pillbox doesnt lie on on the canal but over looks it from the hills. I had to access some farmland for this one. And this was the view from the box!. And this last one is much the same as the first.
  8. These three gun emplacements lie approximately 800m to the West of Newhaven Fort. They were installed during WWII to mount 3 x 6" breech loaders. The battery is in very good condition with most of the original buildings intact but bricked up. Emplacement 1 Emplacement 2 Emplacement 3
  9. Hey thanks for the link. Some pretty cool locations and photos there! the way it should be done.
  10. ' Close to the mouth of the Cuckmere River are concrete constructions which were built during the Second World War. A system of lights mimicked Newhaven harbour at night which, it was hoped, would attract enemy aircraft away from the real harbour and so bomb the haven instead. Other constructions built there were tank traps and block houses 'pill-boxes' used as gun emplacementsand look-out posts often manned by the Home Guard (Dad's Army). ' And from the other side of the river.
  11. Citadel Battery situated on the Western Heights in Dover.
  12. Just West of Citadel Battery along Dover's Western Heights is the remains of Anti Aircraft Battery. Four gun positions. Road block material ? The site is pretty much badly damaged
  13. The battery is situated on the Pett Level just outside of Hastings. Sorry cant currently find a build date or maps for it.
  14. This is the western part of the battery. This is were the stairs/ladder to the upper level would have been until someone removed it!. I could not access this point.
