Hi,
For vehicles over 3500kg it is on the back of the V112G form. This is the form used to self-declare exemption from plating and testing.
"33. Motor vehicles first used before 1 January 1960, used unladen and not drawing a laden trailer, and trailers manufactured before 1 January 1960 and used unladen."
Search the forum as there has been lots of discussion on this subject over the years including a lot of speculation as to how far one could stretch an interpretation of the term 'laden'.
The rules are intended to prevent test-exempt vehicles being used for commercial purposes so a certain amount of common sense can be applied.
The consensus has generally been that 'on-vehicle materiel' such as tools, recovery equipment, permanently fitted equipment etc. are ok, as is personal kit such as camping gear, clothing, food etc.
As Degsy says, this has not to anyone's knowledge ever been tested in court.

On the bright side a tested vehicle can legally carry a load and tow a laden trailer. Might need to be taxed as PHGV though?

Where does it state an MOT exempt vehicle can't carry a load or tow a laden trailer Mike?
That's news to me!

Yeah, I saw that one, looks like I'll have to stump up for it!! Cheers

Mine for the two Dodges is below your minimum quote. That's with Premium Choice the one advetised on the masthead here, . They do added discount for HMVF members.
Thanks Tony. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Hi guys,
How much do you's pay for your GMC insurance? Just trying to get a ball park figure, most of the quotes are coming back with £300-1000!!!
Ive got 12 years no claims, no points, not accidents and stored away from home.
Thanks

Yes, that's my local! The truck hasn't been out so far this year but I'm busy prepping it to take to Normandy at the end of the month.
Do you still have the Dodge Chris? Not seen it for a while!

License sections not applicable? It would be Laden though. Just wondered about the passengers. How many could i carry? What would the V5 say with regards to setting?
-
What are the rules with driving the 352 to a show with passengers in the back on the bench seats. I have a cat C and D1 license if that makes a difference?
I guess I'm limited to 16 people?
What about seatbelts?
Cheers

It's got to be you then. Its been a while since i saw you. Do you drive past the Poachers?

I keep seeing a Dodge WC (I think) driving past my house every few weeks. Ive tried to flag it down to chat but to no avail! Its in Newcastle towards the airport Woolsington way. (Mods, if this is in the wrong section please move it!)

Where does the DVLA state this pre-1960 entitlement, I've looked and I can't find anything about it.
-
I know this is probably quite a basic question but I'm confused!
If I passed my test in 1999 and have B and B1 on my licence which is vans upto 3500kg, does this mean I can drive a CCKW which is surely 2.5t (hence it's name, Duece and a half!!)
Or, am I being stupid!!

The picture doesn't even have exif info to see when it was taken.

I think that's your computer then, I can view it fine!!

Next weekend there's a 1940's weekend at Wallington Hall near Morpeth. It says there's a number of WW2 vehicles in the courtyard, just a heads up as its not been that well advertised!

Im on an iPad so maybe it's that!

It gets to me too, that's what annoyed me with the W&P show, you get people walking round in all types of uniform, CS95 desert trousers with trainers, a SAS beret and a 40's BD jacket, if you're going to portray someone, portray them realistically. But the medals, having earned medals in a number of wars, I've lost friends, I find it disrespectful.
I remember once we we guarding an airshow and we ejected a gent for claiming he was a serving RAF pilot, wearing Flt Lt flying suit and wearing SD shoes and an airman SD cap!!
The uniform law, I never knew about that!!

Can't find the links.

That's from the defence film library, they used to bore the **** out of us with their videos!!

Great thread, I love the history of the WW2 airfields, it's amazing to think how much they've changed in such a short amount of time!!!
