    BSA B40WD

Hi all I have recently purchased a 1967 BSA B40WD that I'm wanting to get on the road ASAP for shows over the summer. I'm trying to sort its history so I can preserve it. I have today managed to get the military reg no and B card for it. I was wondering if any one can assist in de loading it as it does not make a lot of sense to me. Some one has kindly worked out it origanaly started life in Scotland in the Royal Army Medical Corps. So any info on that would be good too
  4. Are you in the Austin gipsy group on Facebook? If you send me the spec code from the glovebox I may be able to tell you origanal colour from factory. I do have a gipsy g4 colour card at home I can send you a pic
  5. Thank you I'm trying along with a couple of others to piece together any information possible to build up a bit of a story on these vehicles Kind Reguards Keith Dunderdale
  6. I am trying to find information on thenl warner 4 pin socket. My Austin gipsy is fitted with one of these as well as a 12 pin socket.. I am finding conflicting information on these as they seem to be fitted to several vehicles including jeep and champ.. Mine has the following 4 pin codes GR R L S Thanks
  7. I realise that it says top on that bracket but the one in my friend's gipsy is fitted upside down but believed to be origanal
  8. Just an update turns out the bracket I pictured initially is an origanal it's also bent. Conveniently it's bent in a perfect 90deg so thrown every one out. This is the extinguisher I need but it appears to be fitted upside down is that common?
  9. Can any one tell me if when convoy lights are on should the brake lights work? I'm a long way off wiring up my vehicle but one of my friends pointed out if you were driving convoy with just diff lights on and you were to brake surely the vehicles would light up like a beacon
  10. I've looked them up and they do look correct to be honest. I've got my dad on the look out for one.
  11. Can any one help identify this bracket and provide information of what extinguisher went in it? Thanks Keith
  12. Gipsies come up a fair amount especially the AFS as they are probably the best preserved and leased used
  13. The FFR one shown in my pic I belive was for demo purposes it has the early lower rear arch and the long range fuel tank hunging under drivers foot well. It is believed that Austin made several changes each time to the vehicles to addear to army requirements. This particular one is I presume 24v but no record of any of the 20 service ones been 24v. All service ones had the later style high arches to make changing wheels easier. This was adopted for the rest of the gipsy production from 66 onwards. Also the service gipsys were fitted with 2 mirror image fuel tanks smaller than the production vehicles tank with an external filler on each side. This was never an option on civvi gipsys The bumperetts were on front and back of the army versions and a complearly different mounting was used. Along with several modifications to the chassis
  14. Thank you Wally, you may remember my father Alan Dunderdale from transport museum days. He sends his regards.
  15. Hi all I am currently (slowly) sourcing parts and restoring an Austin gipsy. It is one of only 20 that were supplied to the army. There is various pictures and information of ones before this batch but I belive these were just demo ones. This batch of 20 consisted of 15 swb and 5 lwb. Mine is one of the latter. So far there is only mine and 1 more lwb known to survive. I'm keen to see if any one has any information on these vehicles or can assist in pointing me in the right direction? I do have some information and happy to share with others. They were designated SP numberplate initially then moved to ER ones. I've added pictures the one with the body is a donor I have to work with. The chassis pic is all I got from the origanal vehicle although I previously got the engine and a few other bits and pieces. The last pic is I belive an earlier demo vehicle as there were changes from that to the "production" ones
  16. Hi my name is Keith I'm in yorkshire and have been around military vehicles for a long time. My father has had a few and I've had a couple of series land rovers Inc 3s airportable and a champ.
