  1. Following last year’s successful run from Southwick House to Basingstoke the same team is organising another one this year. Its not long now until 24th June and the opportunity to be a part of the Armed Forces Day Convoy. This event is very significant for our Armed Forces and to our Veterans in the annual calendar and is one which is popular with the public, with participants and above all, those we salute for their service past and present. Uniquely this year we are driving through Wickham Square at the invitation of the local authority. The Square was a military vehicle parking area in the build up to D-Day and it was a stopping point on the Hampshire one way traffic system ahead of June 1944. We are also driving through the centre of Alton at the invitation of the Town Council, which is holding a Coronation Themed Event to welcome the convoy. Alton is rich in military history, not least because of the former main line London to Winchester railway that ran through the town. The trains carried troops, ballast for airfield construction and other wartime essential goods. The railway is now a heritage line and steam locos will be running on the 24th June between Alton and Alresford. Last, but not least, this year’s event is a pre-cursor to our D-Day 80th Anniversary weekend on 29th and 30th June 2024. Those attending this year will get advance information and early booking opportunities for 2024. If you have any questions or need further information please get in touch. I look forward to you joining us. http://commemorativeconvoys.org/
