  1. There are not many wartime pictures of the Tilly tail. I found one of an earlier Tilly (according to the WD-number). This shows two taillights. I did know that the very early Tilly had two, but this picture suggest more contracts had twin taillights.

     

    The maintenance manual of March 1944 shows indeed a single taillight.

    Some parts can also be found on a Austin Ten Saloon, except the doors. The Tilly has wider doors.

     

     

    No, the Rover 100 from 1960 is not mine .......

    For the best Tilly I need the rear cargo hood top and size of bowes (tubes ) to make them here.....

    For the other one I will need plenty of things, like

     

    -Rear door

    -headlights

    -side lights

    -Front and rear bumpers

    -Radiator

    -Air filter

    -front bonnet AUSTIN emblem

    and other small things

     

     

     

    But principal to start painting best Tilly is the rear hood cargo top ...who can made it ???'

  3. During the cleanup of his property, my brother found this axl under a trailer. It was an old trailer of a farmer.

     

    The axle belongs to a Morris Commercial and one of the tires has the text "Military" on it. What kind of Morris Commercial has this axle?

    Hello Arjan,

     

    I'm sure you have seen this trailer belonging to one of your countrymen,it shows the T plate. There is also a picture of the T plate itself (courtesy of Clive Elliott),which is correct for the trailer.

     

    As far as I'm aware the triangular reflectors appeared in the 1950's. I have seen a period advert showing them,they would be steel I suppose.

     

    I have a T plate that is missing the red reflectors,I will be looking for these and must measure their exact size. Has anyone any experience of replacing these ? Alternatively I would be interested in a complete T plate if there is one available.

     

    What other parts are you looking for ? We are starting work now on our trailer and may have some duplicates available soon especially chassis parts, some of which are common to the Lightweight "airborne" trailers.

    Hello David,

     

    I do know this trailer... it standing in our garage. It's our first GS-trailer we completly restored. Our "new" trailer is reasonably complete.

     

    Our tailgate will be fixed, so we don't miss much.

     

    I think I have a second axle with the hubcaps you need. But have to check.

  5. Were these produced as a utility in production, or has it been later chopped along the roof line. I ask this having not seen one in NZ, and from the photos it looks like a wooden back to the cab, suggesting the chop concept.

    I have a later A40 ute here that has been converted from a car body, with the rear panel of the cab being the back wall of the car. Simply they removed a section of the roof and sides that comprised the rear passenger compartment.

     

    Overall the Tilly looks complete, the panels are there, and would appear lots of the smaller items needed to finish the car. Another chassis, wood work for the doors etc and its all go! Probably most expensive section would be interior seat recovering and trim.

    The Utility were made in production. The Light Utility is based on the Austin Ten Saloon (model 1939), but the door is in fact wider then that of the saloon. I think it's a chop concept from the war. They needed a light utility and fast, so this was the easiest way. They just had to make little changes to the excisiting production line.

     

    It looks complete, but some parts are gone. The dash and engine are complete, but the tail is gone. The tail is quit easy to reproduce. And it's been done before.

  6. I have 1 tow hitch Mk1 as spare.

    Arjan - as a matter of curiosity,could the earlier hitch be fitted to a later drawbar or vice versa? Are the fixing holes the same spacings ?

     

     

    This hitch belonged to my restored trailer. The original drawbars are still on the frame...

    Years ago I found the Mk II hitch, and this one is mounted on the trailer.

     

    The answer is yes..... the fixing holes are the same.

     

    On the 'new' trailer is an extra wheel fitted, just by placing an extra layer onder the hitch. So in theory this could be done with drawbars.

  7. Just found this GS-trailer in a village nearby. It was converted after the war to a tipper, but reasonable complete (and I had some parts from another rescuemission).

    Two id-plates were still present. But not the manufacturer :-(

     

    There are indeed some small differences to my other GS-trailer.
