  1. Hi all,

I'm looking for some technical help.

Really struggling to get a spark and so far I've done the following.

    Replaced

    HT lead and cap

    Spark plug

    Points

    Condenser

Recoiled magneto (done by an ex Lucas employee)

Checked and double checked points and plug gap 0.015

Set timing to tdc and points about to open.

    Tests

All the above tested on a bench

    Multimeter continuity testing all ok

Multimeter tested end of HT lead, got between 2 & 9v depending on how hard I turned it over.

Everything appears to test fine until I plug in a spark plug, earth it on the head bolt and nothing!

Any help or suggestions greatfully received.

Alan, I'm Ron not Gary. As discussed in a previous post, that is the type that I have on my WD/L and WD/G. I had to modify the spout for my WD/L as the carb didn't line up.

Was that show the one in Dorking? I heard it was very dusty there. RON.

    Apologies, Ron.

Yes, the Caple show. Some braved it in the main arena after the tanks had churned up all the ground. I'm sure they regretted it after.

Would my 1944 WD/Co have possibly been fitted with a metal Air Filter Box attached to the carb in place of the rectangular tool box? and would this be attached by a rubber tube please?

    Thanks

    Gary.

Alan this is what was fitted to a CO as standard.

But I do have Lex's Vokes tank top filter here if you want the more expensive route. Ron

Hi Gary, Thank you for the speedy reply.

I was thinking about this one https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/accessory-shop/air-filter/19007

I know it is not right but I'm looking for something to stop the dust and smaller particles getting in!

I was at a military show this weekend in a very dusty field and was not comfortable riding the bike, so I'm looking for something that's a bit more practical and easy to remove when the bike is on display and not being ridden!

    Thanks for your help.

Hi Gary, did you ever get round to fitting an air box? I have the same bike and I want to stop the C**P getting into the carb and ultimately engine.

Would be interested to hear what you ended up doing?

    Thanks

    Alan

  5. Hi Lex, you have a great bike, nice restoration.

Reason I'm asking is that I've been looking for an original and the 1948 one has come up for sale.

    Thanks for the advice.

Unless I can get the 1948 one cheap, I won't bother.

    Thanks again

  6. Hi all, question for those more in the know.

How much would you expect to pay for a civilian 1948 RE125 restored to a good standard and running.

Also your thoughts on taking it back to military spec, would it be worth doing?

    Your thoughts/comments would be appreciated.

    Cheers

  7. Hi everyone,

New to this forum, and I hope to add and comment on posts.

Looking for some help, I have noticed that a number of you have historical records on Royal Enfield's so I'm looking for some help in tracking down the history of this one.

I have just purchased it with the engine 18873 and frame number M18873, I have been told they where part of an RAF order spanning from 1942 to 1944 but I have no evidence of this. Not sure why but 5 of them ended up in Poland and have recently brought back for restoration.

It would be great provenance for the bike if I could have more info on the order history.

Any help would be much appreciated

    Hi Jiri,

I'm keeping a Register for the WD Enfields. Please send me a PM with some pictures of the frame and engine numbers, then this will enable me to tell you the despatch date of your bike. I can also calculate the census number for the petrol tank, the one that you're using now is not for a Royal Enfield.

    Regards,

    Jan

Hi Jan, Just noticed this post, are you still keeping a register for the WD Enfields?

I have just purchased a 1942 RE WDCO and I would like to know more information on its history, the frame and engine numbers match, they are both 18873.

I believe it was part of an RAF purchase between 1942 and 44. The bike came from Poland and has just been renovated in the uk

Any information would be gratefully received.

    Thank you,

    Alan Simpson
