  1. Thanks MatchFuzee, I'll do some digging 👍
  2. Upon flicking through a book on 79th Armoured Division it would seem that they either fabricated the mounts 'in-house' so to speak or farmed it out whilst keeping control of the process rather than letting it go further down the chain of command. Would anybody who has researched this division be able to offer any advice please?
  3. Thanks MatchFuzee, Contacting these chaps is a possibility but their representation isn't exactly correct either and we would rather get it right first time if we can. Regards Tom
  4. Thank you Rootes75, yes the lads have been in contact with Bovington, sadly their representation of what the Polsten mount looks like isn't particularly accurate and they can't find anything in the archive to tell us what it should look like. Regards Tom
  5. Hello Chaps and Chapesses, I am writing on behalf of the Crowland Buffalo Restoration Team with some of the questions that are proving to be rather difficult to answer. We are struggling to find any information on the Polsten 20mm Cannon Mounting. Attached is a photo of a Buffalo that I have screen-grabbed from the Pathe 'Rhine Crossing' film and I have annotated it to identify parts that are visible in the other attachments. It would seem that the mount that was used on the British Buffaloes is shown in the last attachment and would have originally been bolted to the swivelling mount that was found on the Crowland machine. Can anybody shed any light on both the Polsten Frame, whether any still exist or if drawings might be available please? Also if you know of any information on the Buffalo swivelling mount it would save a lot of head-scratching! Thanks for looking Tom
  6. It's my first post here so hello to you all! I've been looking into the history of the Allis Chalmers tracklayers in Army/Engineer's service during WWII with the HD-7 in particular drawing my attention. My interest in Allis in particular is in-part because my Grandad had wheeled Allis tractors on the farm and while I was too young to remember them the family album always sparked something. Looking at some of the Landing Tables for Neptune it seems that a number of them were employed during the Invasion, is this actually the case or have I got the wrong end of the stick please? Also would they have been used by the Engineers who were building airfields and Advanced Landing Grounds both on the Continent and back in Blighty? Finally, does anybody know of any survivors in the UK/Europe please? as I can only find reference to one HD-7, an HD-10 which was in a grader setup and another HD-10 which was fitted with a blade and was purported to have taken part in the Invasion of France. Attached is a pic of what I understand to be a REME HD-7 with a Garwood angle-blade although I stand to be corrected! 😀 Cheers, Tom
