  1. So last weekend , Rowlie, myself and my daughter Mollie went back to Ypres Belguim for the official inauguration of the Brothers in Arms memorial.

As some know we were asked back in April  to deliver the bronze statue of the brothers through the Menin gate and on to its final destination which was a huge honour and something in which we were only to pleased to help out in any way we could.

The Liberty is still inBelguim until November when we hope to finally drive her back to the U.K. and home again.

A few photos of us in April and also last weekend .

The Liberty literally started first pull of the handle after 6 months left idle and ran as ever faultlessly.

For more information please look up Brothers in Arms on either Facebook or Google and the amazing story of the Hunter brothers can be found.

  2. Good luck! You should absolutely try and buy it.

Yes between Rowlie and myself we own the Locomobile and the Riker . The Riker was originally bought for spares for the Locomobile but now it will also be got running, not restored but left literally as found to show people what 104 years does to them.

OK Dorset Boy.... I took the bait.... How did the first day of Double Decker war bus work go?  Do you anticipate a full on rebuild and replace most of the wood.  Or is this a seek and destroy mission where you repair as needed and get on with the upper deck?  As I have studied your pictures, I can see the subtle differences between the Locomobile radiators and the Riker.  Do you feel the worm drive arrangement is the same for both?

    Al

Hellooo, so sorry, I don’t actually look on here very often so apologies for not replying.

The double decker body will be sympathetically restored with new wood as needed and then obviously new stairs and top deck when eventually we get there.

Really there are very little differences between the Riker and Locomobile, same model designation, all running gear identical apart from the starter provision on the Riker and of course different ignition system etc.

The Locomobile is relatively early so has the the radiator prior to the finned version of Locomobile, after that the name changed to Riker and again a finned version.

  4. Totally agree with Tim regarding the similarities between a B type Locomobile and B type Riker, radiator , electrics and starter are the main difference.

4 speed gearbox plus reverse , cone clutch and transmission brake is the set up.

On a different note, the Double decker battle bus body restoration starts tomorrow!!!

Nice projects for sure.  If I get to the point of hard rubber tires, I think I would give it a go and cast up my own tires.  I wonder what the pot life is and how viscus the material used for the tires is?  Can it just be poured or would it need to be forced?

    Al

Here’s a few photos of the Liberty rear wheels with her new tyres moulded on. Thanks for correcting me on the material , knew it was “poly” something lol!!!

    So far so good 👍

Nice videos of your Liberty in action!  It does give me the incentive to get some progress on the Riker.  Is that a Model T Ford loaded in the back?  Is the Liberty about the same size and all as your Locomobile and potentially my Riker?

    Al

There should be more videos earlier on in this thread that I put on a few weeks ago.

the Liberty is similar in theory and would share the same GS body.

    yes my 1913 model T👍👍
