Hello everyone. I've been looking through this forum for sometime now, and it's so interesting with so many great people and their vehicles that I decided to get closer by joining. Unfortunately I do not have a historic vehicle (unless I can include my 15 year old Suzuki 4x4!) but have got back into scale military vehicle modelling as I approach early retirement in a few years time. So I will be asking questions as I try to represent vehicles accurately but a lot smaller than real life
I started out out as an electrical fitter apprentice in 1977, in Portsmouth Dockyard which was where I first worked on MoD landrover electrics. All other work was on warships and submarines but also was 'loaned' to Fleetlands to do helicopter repair. At the end of the apprenticeship I was offered an immediate job at RAE Farnborough and NGTE Pystock. This was all gas turbine testing and site maintenance. I then joined GPO Telephones where I've been for over 33 years and intend to retire in the next few.
Cheers, John
