The day we were there the weather was better -- but the noise of screaming aircraft was horendous. Have a laugh at these!
West Somerset MVT's trip out to the remaining buildings. For those who want to know more, there is an Airfields Heritage Trust that keep a mass of photos and documents for the three airfields on the Blackdowns, including a fascinating account and photos of Liberators being ripped in half by a steel cable tied between two Dodges by the Americans before they left the base. What a waste!
The Bofors gun is a fifties version and was gifted to one of our members, Claud Cappell from the Beverley Museum whem it disbanded. It's not for sale but was put there to advertise the planned airfield open day in August. Unfortunately that was cancelled due to bad weather -- now there's a surprise!

Welcome Phil. Pretty new myself, but it appears that they're all a friendly bunch.
Nice truck! Shame to get it plastered in Dorset mud! But then there's all winter to get it clean again and at least you'll get to know it!

I visited an MV collector called Jeff Williams from Gloucester early part of this year and he had FUF 47 for sale at 6.5K. He said he bought it to shift his 432 around, but has since bought a Reo. I've got loads more pictures and info if anyone is interested.
The other picture is of the SV2S pictured at the beginning of the thread. I saw it at Hatherliegh, North Devon a year or so ago and it was owned by a Mike Harris who used to live near Heathrow and bought an old wayside garage in North Devon. Interestingly, the Scammel has a Cornish registration so it's obviously done the rounds. Again, I've got loads more detail pictures if anyone is interested.

Wow -- quick reaction or what! --thanks guys!
The truck had some kind of test frame and apparatus in the back and yes there is a side awning in the top locker that looks vertually unused. The speedo says 11,500 miles and to all intents and purposes the rest of the truck doesn't reflect a hard life. The markings visible are of 2 (NT) Signal Brigade which are mainlyTA now, but I'm set on getting the rest of the history as while we were stripping the brakes we chipped off large chunks of yellow paint underneath the green. This led to sanding off a bit of bodywork which revealed metal -red primer - green - sand - green - green - RAF blue - green - olive drab.
The body is marked as "Wireless light" but was originally RAF blue under the many coats of green -- the mystery deepens!
Truck is now in Taunton in Somerset
Can't work out how to attach photos -- what's a URL

Hi there -- just joined and don't know where to go!
Any body got a K9? Is there a discussion group? I've just got one and want to know more -- I'm particularly interested in any old pics of K9 wireless trucks in service in the 50s and 60s.
I've also got a Scammell SV2S and will be posting piccies in my album soon. Again any pics of Scammell revovery vehicles in service would be appreciated.
Does anybody recollect 2 Command Workshop REME in 1949 period -- location and establishment would be useful
