  1. Star of the show!!

Federal 606 C2 wrecker (?)with its Hercules engine on show at La Locomotion en Fete, Etampes, France Saturday the 13th June 2009.

    Lovely machine!

    Very Nice indeed!

I was going to go to Locomotion this year, but it clashed with a show here! I'm definitely going next year though. Did you enjoy it FV1604A?

  2. Hi Gordon M, it was in the Dundee suburb of Lochee and it did come from Pitlochry.

It was pretty rough and it's now been weighed in for scrap when it was £200+ a ton.

It would have been nice if someone had taken it on for restoration as Federals are far less common than WLF's.

    Regards, Jonathan

  3. hi eka wrecker, just a quickie, the crane on clydds wrecker was built in the workshops of morants motors of dunton green near sevenoaks, about three miles from our village, morants also ran a canadian chev with hand wind gear on it, hope of interest, tony g

Thanks Tony, I don't know what I was thinking of! Old age I guess?.........I'll get my coat. :)

    Regards, Jonathan

  4. The Four Lives of a Diamond T

Photo 1 - I took this around 1978 when it belonged to Morant Motors of Dunton Green near Sevenoaks. I was going to buy it but was put off by the very lpoor oil pressure. Intersting to note, the crane was built in their premises at Dunton Green and when it was finished it was too high to exit the workshop so they cut 12" off the top of the crane.

Photo 2 - The same Diamond was eventually sold in about 1980 to Clydd Williams of Ruthin, North Wales. The engine was taken out and the crank re-ground. Clydd also fitted two Bedford thermo starts in the air intake manifold and said it would start in 5 degrees of frost. Clydd was a real engineer. A friend of mine lived in Ruthin and I made several trips there to see progress on the old girl.

Photo 3 - Shows it many years later after Graham Booth bought it when Clydd retired and sold up. Graham removed the crane and put it back to military trim.

Photo 4 - Shows the 'T' in Pickfords trim and still attending rallies but I don't know who owns her now.

    All the best, Tony G

I took these photo's of TKN in the mid 80s at Ruthin, and they show the largely original condition and Clydd's home made crane to good effect.

Clydd was indeed a 'real engineer' and his modest sized workshop boasted some fantastic pieces of engineering machinery, that would make light work of even the largest of diesel engine reconditioning.

Clydd also ran an Albion CX22 converted to a breakdown, and I will post the picture of it that I know I have somewhere when I find it!!

  5.

    The parts required are.....

N/S and O/S opening 1/4 window / vent on cab doors

2 x Upright Exhaust Silencers ( Behind Cab)

If anyone has access to those numbers I will be eternally grateful.

Vent assy (L.H) -Door Window........ 41008882

Vent assy (R.H) -Door Window........ 41008883

Silencer (Chiswick and Wright No. PR401)......... 41015350

I have a parts book for the Scammell/EKA if you need any more numbers.

I also have a couple of vent glasses but the frames are gone as they normally rot away. (like most of the rest of the Motor Panels Cab!)

    Regards, Jon

  6. Wassat fing then? Uuuh? It looks like a Scammell cab with a CX bonnet and an HD23 radiator. What do you or anyone else know about it. It's certainly a hybrid if ever I saw one.

I'm pretty sure I saw this about 20 years ago at the 'Doune Motor Co' near Stirling and I was told it was used by the Albion Works Service Dept in Scotstoun, Glasgow.

This might explain why it's a hybrid!

I think it looks like it's based on a CX24S, maybe with 'other bits' that were lying around the factory added on.

  7. Thanks for that link Davie (although the pictures seem to have dropped off the thread), there was a lot of great stuff in that yard and when I visited again last August it had ALL gone!

I'm looking forward to seeing any pictures you might have.

  8. Right.................... now for the porn shots. :-D Do ya wanna see my underneath :cool2:

Looking forward......... the front axle is a bit skinny for a 20 tonner...... must have been made out of some good steel. The beergox casing is all aluminium, and the sump is a massive ally casting too.

The rear axles are permanently linked worm and wheel diffs. I don't know if Albion made these or not. Braking is full air Westinghouse equipment. Axle travel is limited by cable stops at the end of the springs. Suspension is two inverted semi elliptic springs. :)

A very interesting vehicle, esp being a short wheelbase 3 way tipper, I'll certainly be looking forward to its completion.

I see it's got an auxillary low range box fitted which I believe is quite easy to turn round to give a bit more speed.

Keep up the good work 'Swill'- I will let you know if I come across an Edbro 3 way body, but if it's still attached to a Militant, I'll be buying it complete!!:-D

  9. You Rotter ! All these years I've been dreaming about this Martin's Militant tipper only to find out it's not a proper one. You could have broken the news a bit more sensitively. Plan 'B' is to steal Will's tipper one night.....but only after he's restored it.laugh.gif
