  1. I am looking at having some old style square profile nuts made, with a metric thread so that aesthetically they will look correct.

I will be having some 8 & 10mm made, is there any interest from anyone else?  I have been given a price of approx £1.40 each, I appreciate that's expensive but it does give another option for people that want the 'authentic' appearance.

  2. Bedford QL, the interior has been converted to living accommodation, hot/cold water, toilet/shower, approx 90ltr water tank, gas hob/oven, wardrobe/storage.

This vehicle has been converted to diesel using a cummins 6BT naturally aspirated.

The vehicle was totally stripped/sand blasted and painted about 6yrs ago together with all new canvas canopy and other items, it has had a new radiator and starter motor this year. 5. Hi all,

I am desperately looking/in need of the following, any leads or offers would be greatly appreciated,

    Kevin

Fuel tanks ( happy to consider something that needs repairing )

Fuel tank taps, change over valves etc

    Pair of seats

Anything else MW you may no longer have a use or need for

  6. Hi Howard, Is that the correct fuel tank for the truck? The reason I ask is that access to the filler looks nigh on impossible with the body in the correct position, unless of course there is more space above the tank than the picture shows.

As you say the tin work will require a bit of fettling

  7. Well Its been a while since doing a blog on a full restoration this will added to as and when work commences on the restoration. Well Tony.H, and I headed off this morning to a sunny village in North Norfolk. On Arrival the truck was hiding in a shed where she was pulled outside and loaded onto Tony,s trailer. Once all strapped up and after a coffee and a shat we headed back to suffolk. The Chevrolet had not been started since 1953. I have to admit I expected the engine to be siezed. But once we arrived back with her and all unloaded. I had a little investigation to see if the engine was stuck, and to my amazement she was not. In fact the engine was very free. well after a few checks oil here and there and fitting a small remote fuel tank, fitting a battery and a new coil I gave her a turn well she burst into life and no nasty knocks infact a very quiet running engine. Even the clutch is free all gears seem ok. Well now i know the engine runs. I can concentrate on the strip down, its a total strip, right down to the axles. Heres a few pics more to follow as the restoration goes.

Hi Howard that's a cracking looking truck, there was a nice one in Guernsey this year. Looking forward to seeing the finished article,

Ps Are you always that regular after a coffee or was it because you were strapped up😀

  8. Just an update on the steering wheel, I have now sourced a replacement wheel for the truck, thanks to all concerned offering help etc, however it seems that the steering columns differ in size as two of the three wheels I now have are a different boss size, these may be off a MW or OY, but I am reliably informed that the non fitting wheel was removed from a QL, so the question now would be can anybody supply any dimensions of the steering columns for the above mentioned vehicles, my column measures as follows - 25mm diameter at the bottom of the taper, 22.1mm at the top of the taper, the height of the tapered section is 29.5mm plus the threaded portion of 12.9mm (height) the key width is 4.9mm, all measurements were taken with a vernier gauge so should be accurate!

  9. The MCC on the replacement wheel center would be the clue, - Morris Commercial Cars.

I may have a wheel that is a bit better than your old one but I will have to have a look.

Yes it would have given a clue, unfortunately neither wheel had a Center cover, if you have something to suit that would be great!

    regards Kevin

  10. Hi all, I recently tracked down a replacement steering wheel after two years of searching, having compared the rim size and Center to the old one I set about removing the old wheel, the old wheel was in such a bad state that it didn't survive the removal process! I offered up the new wheel only to find the dimensions of the hole in the wheel Center are smaller than the steering column! Somewhat cheesed off as the new wheel looked identical and was sold as a Ql wheel, I think it may be for a Mw instead. I am now in the unenviable position of having no steering! Can anybody recommend a engineering company who may be able to machine the Center to the correct dimensions bearing in mind it is tapered hole and has a keyway or alternatively does anybody have a correct wheel to fit?

    any suggestions are welcome

    regards Kevin
