  1. While researching about the CMP C60X, I stumbled on a C60X chassis drawing, from a danish army lubrication chart. Due to being a rare subject, I tought it would be of more general interest, beyond my simple modeling interest, so I will post it in some places, with a link to the original site, that has also some nice photos. My thanks for Ole Andreasen for the public posting of this file.
(go to files, look for "Chevrolet CAN - C60X - haandbog - alle typer.pdf", its all in danish unfortunatly.)
I hope this can be usefull!

The yellow blob certainly looks like a  Morris Mk I or Mk II the trailer possibly a 2-wheel 8-berth Personnel modified for use as a flying control van for a gliding school but I'm guessing. I remember Bedford MW's painted yellow at Martlesham Heath along with a trailer similar to the one shown besides one possibly two open top Standard Beveretts used for retrieving wayward Gliders and cable pulling duties early fifties as I watched my older brother gain his wings, sorry no photos.

Was searching about RAF runway caravans, and find this post. I never seen anything about a " 2-wheel 8-berth Personnel", please anyone as more information about this?

    Many thanks,

  3. Just seen this today, its a RAF Brockhouse MK2 900gal Fuel Bowser. RAF had also the same tank boby mounted in one "Eagle Engeneering Co" trailer chassis. The frame front/rear ends is one way to tell the difference, the Eagle ones were straight. Suspension attachments were also different. The C channel in the frame is turned outside. The image bellow I believe that is from a Eagle trailer.

  4. Hi,

The truck is a Autocar U-70(U90?), with a tanker body.

It is a strong possibility that it was previously a US Navy truck, as I remember to read somewhere that both 2x4 and 4x6 U70/U90 were used by this service for use in Naval land airbases.

    I researched this truck before:

Note, it seems that autocar was connected to White, and most photos of Autocar trucks appear under this.

I hope that the links can be of help, if you find more infos and photos, please post them, this is a rare truck and all info is welcome!

    Cheers

  5. As I posted, while searching, I found in an unrelated search/subject, that in France still existed one 40' trailer, and in restored state! However, the photo doesn't had any info, and all my search based on the trucks on the photo, lead to nothing. Fortunatly, the photographer later reply to my post (as I subscribed to the forum on that purpose), and refered the place: "La Locomotion en Fête 2013" (more likelly was in 2011, as the original date on the post). It is a great show and display of vintage vehicles in France, in the Cerny/Ferté-Alais airfield.

From that, after a long and cross refered search, trough public websites, posts, online newspapers, I manage to find the owner's name, and the military vehicle association that they belong, "R.A.D.A.R.", meaning "Rassemblement Axonais Des Amis de la Résistance".

The owner appear to use it as a vehicle trailer to transport their Federal tractor/semitrailer, Sherman tank, etc, to shows and exibits. They use a M51/M118 tractor to pull it. Thanks to him, this trailer was certainly saved!

I only find a few images from 2011 that show the trailer, as in other more recent news and photos of their participations and exibits, they have use a proper wartime vehicle trailer to transport the vehicles. If anyone has more info and photos, please post!

In case of interest, you can easily find the owner and location in the links below in the "resume" links of my search:

The tractor seems to be a M51/M818. Images are from the same photographer, Michel Duparet and I assume they were taken at same place/date. From the EXIF data, they were from 28 May 2011, maybe in a show in France? If anyone could identify the show, maybe it be possible to find more photos.

I have posted pics of our Federal 606 on my introduction thread hope you like them. Still learning how to negotiate the forum yet.

If anyone has an inertia starter for our truck we are missing it and would like to have one to complete the project.

Restoration is a slow process and now waiting to cement the shed floor so that we can get on with it all.

    Thanks Julianne

    Hi,

    How is the restoration going?

We would like a lot to see more photos please!

    Best regards,

  8. Thanks NOS!

Bart, I didn't have the idea that OshKosh made 4x4 with cabs similar to Autocar.New to me!

Just a updat, it seems that one of the U-70/90 cab type wrecker survived, despite a rusted state...! If it was a prototype, it still exists (at least in 2010)!

Restored, it would be a fantastic unusual display truck!

(From other photos, its seems to be in a wooded area, with a lot of old trucks from the 1940 early-1950. All civiliam type cabs, Sterlings, Diamonds, Autocars, Internationals, etc.)

  9. Hello,

While searching my files, I found this photo of a Autocar wrecker. As this subject seems to be rare in information, I tought to post it. Note the rear winch and the absence of the 5th wheel.

It is very similar to the one in a famous Tarawa photo, (dated March 1944).

This could this be a later civil adaptation, post-war, but is also possible that a few more existed than previously considered. I have read in other forum that the navy bought several Autocar chassis to serve as recovery wreckers, but I tought they had U type cabs.

I always had read that it was a "one-off" truck, maybe for Naval or Marines aviation, however there are photos of similar wreckers in Torokina and Vella Lavella airfields at the same time frame:
