This one was in service from 1978 to 1983. Don’t have any other detail yet though

Like you - I thought Clansman doubtful , age of vehicle - a Larkspur box would be better. I have two Pye Westminster both with RNAS station Dymo call.
If I come across a Larkspur box I’ll fit it, the Clansman can stay for now as it help to know where the wing ends. We have some very narrow roads over here 🙂

It’s RAF registration was 88AM49. I have contacted the RAF museum but apart from a we will get back to you reply I haven’t heard any more so far.
The main question, however, was when did the yellow stripe stop being used or do they still use it.🙂

I’m not in U.K., Channel Islands are part of British Isles and our laws are very different.
Basically the Land Rover was purchased from one of the military vehicle auctions back in 2011, unfortunately the current owner appears to have lost the bill of sale, also when he purchased it he had it shipped to Jersey CI and left it in a field for 9 years while he decided what to do with it.
It now needs a full brake overhaul, engine is not running well and most rubber bits are perished. Bodywork and chassis appear ok apart from surface rust which should hopefully clean up.
Jersey regulations specify that the vehicle must be in a clean and roadworthy condition when presented to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Dept for inspection prior to it being allowed on the road. If previously registered it can be driven from A to B for purposes of repair, this one is unregistered so it needs to be towed/low loaded everywhere. Also without the original bill of sale it is not possible to pay the import duty to Customs and without the receipt for this the vehicle cannot be registered.

Excellent, thank you very much. It’s an impressive looking beast but needs a fair bit of work to get it registered.
Not sure what I’m going to do yet

Hi Webly
I was involved in the design and development of the Rapier system from 1964 to 1991 eventually being the designer of the electrical power generating units for FSA/B, Tracked and FSC.
I inherited the design of the FSA/B unit that was subject to virtually all of it being modified to make it useable in service. Unfortunately there was not much that could be done to reduce the audible noise that the alternator drive belt produced. We did design and demonstrate noise reducing air intake and exaust ducts but they very much comprimised the cooling system so were never put into production.
The trailer lighting bar was part of the GSGE and was also completely redesigned, as was the lifting/spreader bar fitted to it. As far as I know the trailer registration numbers were a MOD job and the bars were supplied with blank no plates.
I have a very good GSGE that at present is not operable, in addition the Bristol Aero Collection has a GSGE that is in very poor condition and may be up for disposal later this year.
I also have an externally complete FSC Launcher and 8 drill missiles .

Would you be able to post on here if you see one come up for disposal. A poor one is better than non. Depending on costs of course

That was quick,thank you

I can’t find much information on staff cars. Is there any publication or website that lists what vehicles were adopted as official transport for officers and the like
WW1 and WW2 ones are fairly well documented but I’m interested in the 1950 onwards.
back in the 1990’s we had some visiting generals in the Island and they were using metallic red Rover 800’s with red plates with stars on the bumpers.
What was used in the 1950’s to 1980’s?

I haven’t sourced anything yet, will need to find something over the next year or so.

Occasionally after disconnecting and reconnecting the starter leads the voltage reads 28-30 and doesn’t fluctuate at all when the panel illumination switch is turned on
-
Apologies for delayed reply, I had to go to work.
Generator is No1 Mk2-1.
photos attached show yellow and red lights OFF when ignition is ON ( hard to see due to sun). Vehicle started with crank as starter lever didn’t do anything.
voltage gauge on right side reading 24v. Turning lights on doesn’t alter it but turning the panel illumination switch on knocks voltage down to 15v.
problem with starter motor is that is doesn’t engage with the flywheel ring.
-
By ignition lights I mean the oil / generator lights.
The vehicle has a voltage gauge wired up in a panel along with a wind up clock
generator is the smaller one bolted to front of passenger seat No2 Mk1/2 ( I think) will have to check tomorrow
I’ve only had it a few weeks so not sure how long it’s played up, what I don’t understand is why it seems to alternate between the two problems
-
I’m confused, As my starter motor is playing up at the moment ( replacement on order) I have been connecting and disconnecting the cables etc.
as a result of this sometimes the ignition lights don’t light up but the gauges move and the engine starts with the crank or they light up and engine starts normally
When the engine is running the voltage gauge is around 22-25, turning the lights on doesn’t make it fluctuate, however, the red light bulb lights up very very dimly, but if I turn on the panel lights then the volts dip really low and the red light illuminates bright.
other times after disconnecting and reconnecting the starter all ignition lights work every time but starter either works or squeals ( not engaging ring), however, voltage gauge reads high, no glow on red light and panel lights do not affect voltage reading.
any ideas? Is it a starter motor fault affecting everything else or do I need to start checking wiring loom?

Agreed, red/white hackle was Northumberland Fusiliers, later Royal Fusiliers when serving in NI
-
Very considerate of them, can’t make out the Regiment, Something (?) Fusiliers possibly
