It's been a long time since I've I've posted here, but health is improving so I'm back:P

I have assembled a complete A41 backpack radio, complete with accessories, and have a Field Test Unit, to go with my Larkspur C42/B47. equipped Austin Champ.

The help I'd really appreciate now is to complete the A41 Rebroadcast Functional units.  I have the main rebroadcast unit (top of 1st photo), but still need the Relay Unit (lower unit in 1st photo & shown in 2nd photo).

Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.

I once moved a double metal garage around my block, using Ferret power, to a new position on my own. Jacked up the garage, welded supports to the ferret, welded them to the garage and slooowly moved it. Once in the new posi, took the weight off the Ferret using jacks, cut the welds using oxy, moved the Ferret out, lowered the garage then ground the welds down on the Ferret and repainted. Easy as:) I also used the ferret to act as a crane, using an engine lifter, to build a deck on the end of the house. Mount the engine lifter on the engine covers, chain them down using the lifting eyes mounted on the rear suspension mounts, and you've got your own tow truck:) Little bit of paint afterwards and it's back to normal. Ferrets are tough and you should be able to mount a "bar" on the turret to swing a chain block off. Just make sure the turret base plate is well secured:) Alan (now only a Champ - 46 BE 83)

I'm reliably informed that the brake fluid container was delivered in black, but of course it may have then morphed to green over time.

first thing i would do is give each wheel station a damn good clean least u can then see what yah doing:cool2:

I don't know about Saracen/Saladin but a good rule of thumb is to back off any brake adjusters

A Question to those who have removed the gearbox on a Ferret Mk 2/3 (i.e. the turreted version).

 

Have you managed to do it with an 8ft demountable gantry? I need to remove the gearbox on a Ferret and there's only 2ft clearance between the top if the turret and the bottom of an 8ft gantry, my guess with everything as short as it can be (short slings etc) it can be done, but can the gearbox be lifted out then with the same 8ft Gantry and clearing the top of the vehicle, which will of course have its turret removed by now?

Diana I had a Ferret many moons ago. It was a Mk1, with a turret added for the fun of it. I had gearbox issues and definitely wouldn't have even considered taking the gearbox out through the turret. Much too dangerous to have that weight swinging in the wind. My Advice is: 1/ remove the turret then take out the gearbox: 2/ HOWEVER, my best advice is to remove the gearbox AND the engine, "out the back", then remove the gearbox. More work, but MUCH safer. While you do it also gives you the ability to paint the engine bay/rear of cabin.

Many thanks for the welcome. My Champ (46 BE 83, WN1 4683, engine 52802) should arrive next week. Do any forum members have a CES list ( I have the one from the back of the parts manual) and photos of items for the Champ? It'd help me try to source CES for my Champ. Cheers, Alan

G'day all, just a quick introduction to let you know that I'm expecting the arrival of my Champ shortly, and I've joined the HMVF as a way of getting in touch with sources of friendship and information on a whole range of Military Vehicles. I've owned a Ferret Scout Car, Humber 1 Ton and Champ in the past and, having been medically retired from work, I'm now looking at the Champ as a way of not going stir crazy! Funny really, once I start working on it, I'll probably start going stir crazy! Cheers, Alan
