  1. Texas Pete. The park have dredged the lake over the winter and done some massive rebuilding of the shore. They have asked for no tracked vehicles. However we are currently planning to swim wheeled vehicles. Anyone thinking of swimming a wheeled vehicle should contact me directly on the email from the show website.

Gas 44 we have actually moved the show date as if we stuck with our normal date it would have landed on the Normandy dates.

  2. Wicksteed at War show is back for 2014. We look forward to seeing all types of vehicle at the show, including WW1 and amphibious vehicles (wheeled only) which we are hoping to swim in the parks lake. The show is perfectly suited for all the family including childrens play areas and lots of space for parking up.

If you are interested in volunteering as a marshall, or swimming a vehicle then please let me know.

  3. Found some markings on the front wing my 42 Willys MB. Can anybody confirm them as wartime and American, and any other info. I know the markings refer to Tyre Pressure, I am wondering whether they used yellow in the war, I have only ever seen blue or white markings.

The small lettering says "To fall below this" and the yellow lettering is TP30. You will find the picture on the following links

  5. HI guys,

Just to keep you up to date. The safety report for the Wicksteed at War show is now complete. It will go for review with the organising team on Wednesday and then be submitted to the MVT safety officer. This will also be accompanied by an updated MVT safety guide which we have done based on what we learnt from the show.

The guide to swimming amphibious vehicles is still being produced and will follow on behind. All the comments in this string have been considered and implemented where applicable.

  6. Hi all, I saw the landing craft as well on the M25 painted grey with a white diamond marking on the side. I also saw a mint Ford GPA on the M25, on the back of a car trailer. Very nice it was.

    Regards

    stu

That was me pulling the GPA. She will be back in the M25 again this week so keep your eye out.

  7. If we are interested in taking the hobby forward then what is required is a clear set of guidelines for swimming at shows that is adopted by the MVT. The Wicksteed at War show followed the MVT guidelines to the letter, with nothing in there about swimming it was difficult to get right. The show was incredibly popular with great feedback, we received no complaints from the public about safety and nobody got hurt, or even injured, we must remember this.

I shall be producing my own comprehensive guidelines for the next Wicksteed at war show to cover this for the swimming of vehicles. If any of you would like to contribute to this then they are welcome. Maybe then after the next show the MVT might adopt it as policy, it is not what has happened, this is about preventing what might, which hasn't happened in the past.

I have no complaints about this comment string, it is essentially my show and this feedback is useful. Putting on a show takes an incredible amount of work, whilst you try to make everything as safe as possible things fall through the cracks. The MVT safety guidelines should be updated as a result of every show report that is submitted to them, then we would have a current document covering all the possible issues.

It is important to remember that the show was a great success, we had over 9000 visitors to the park, a great selection of vehicles on show and activities for the whole family, and the volunteers worked very hard. This is what I set out to achieve. It will be better for next year.
