Just ordered it, so I'll see what you're talking about soon.
-
I spoke to my dad about this at the weekend, he was a Morris Quad driver in 20th field regiment RA 1954-56.
He confirmed that there was no built in stowage in the Quad for ammunition, sometimes they would carry extra rounds (boxed) on the floor of the crew compartment if they were doing a big shoot, but this was rare and not too popular with the gun crew.

Thanks Ron, that at least gives me a direction to start researching :cheesy:

A friend asked me the other day what Motorcycles the Western forces used in the 80's and I realised the only one I could think of was the Can Am Bombardier, which I believe was used by the UK, Belgium and Canada but I have no idea what the US or Germany used can anyone shed some light on the subject for me, even better if you can point me to somewhere on the Web so I can show him.
Thanks
Kev.

One sat by the roadside, at a paintball place just outside Ancaster, Lincolnshire. Looks like we're getting further from Kent every post!
It'll be Scotland next!
I cross posted this on here,

And it turns out there's one just across the water from me in Essex at this museum,

which I might be able to gain access to, so happy days :-D

Duxford has at least one. Slight distance from Kent
True, but from memory Duxford has it's vehicles behind rope, makes it a bit hard to take measurements,
Bovington would be better, you can get closer but I wouldn't be able to get on the vehicle and measure the
Stillbrew armour.

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of a Stillbrew Chieftain in the Kent(ish) area that I could get my hands on to measure and photograph, I have a friend who is building a 3D model(computer) and he says he just can't get it right, as he's in Tasmania Chieftains are very few and far between so he can't do it himself,
cheers, Kev

The ground was a bit wet, so three Scammell Explorers failed to tow an ARRV, although Forceful would have done it alone in the dry!
Someone should have got out and pushed :-D

I've got some gunnery posters
Sounds interesting, care to tell me more, for the Cent?
-
Lovely pictures, thanks for posting

Thanks James, much appreciated.

Hello guys,
I'm after a Centurion 105mm gunnery manual, so far I've drawn a blank,
can anyone please point me in the right direction,
Thanks,
Kev.

I had the pleasure of having a look at your Cromwell on Saturday, she looks fantastic, and sounds gorgeous,
a job well done gents
-
I'll follow this with interest, as I have a soft spot for the old Quad,
that's what my dad drove during his natonal service with 20th field regiment
1954-1957.
They just look so British
-
the camo seems to be in reverse, the mickey mouse ears are in green rather than black
That's it, I've been looking at it thinking something looked strange.
-
Lovely thanks, looks so clean and uncluttered compared to a modern CVR(T)

Can anyone recommend a good source of in service pictures of Scorpion, either online or in book form,
many thanks,
Kev.

What about the other CVRT variants, did they use the same flexible fuel tank, but relocated?
-
The restoration of my prototype Scorpion is fairly well covered on HMVF under 'Scorpion Prototype Restoration'.
The 'Album' is not easy to find!
Go to 'Community' (at the top of the page, next to 'Calendar').
Go to 'Member list'. Select 'FourFox'.
Select 'Album'.
There might be an easier way to achieve this...but I can't find one!
It only took about 7 months to restore as I work at it full time during the warmer months.
The Scorpion has been at War and Peace for 2 years 2010 and 2011. Then at 'Tanks Trucks and Firepower' in Dunchurch for 2011 and 2012, where I do the commentary on the firepower and driving demonstrations...Fantastic!
And just to proove it did sunshine this year!
It is also pictured in the current issue of MMI.
It is now up for sale as I have another project 'on the go!'
PM me if interested.
Jon
Very nice, I'd love it Jon, always been a dream of mine to own a CVRT of some sort, alas finances dictate
otherwise, but you never know if my numbers come up on Saturday :-)
-
Thanks Jon,
I suppose it make sense to use a similar system for the larger AFV's I'd imagine a solid fuel tank could crack with the strains and stresses a Tank goes through of road, just out of curiosity how long did it take to restore vehicle, was it fairly good or in a state when you got it?

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the detailed reply, it sounds an absolute nightmare of a job to do, do these kind of petrol tanks/bags fail much?
I presume it was kept the same when the Scimitar was changed to a diesel engine.

Exactly, Dad said that the lockers were used for his kit and the gun crews, plus tools and the rods for lining up the gun,
There's just no way you could get 96 shells and cartridges in there, you'd struggle to get that amount in the gun crew compartment.
Great picture, thanks for the link.
