  1. In many accounts of the NW Europe campaign there is constant reference to a large vehicle called a TCV (Troop Carrying Vehicle). No manufacturers details given, but apparently very large and used for transporting troops en masse to/from various areas of the front, but not up to the front line.

At first I thought this was just a general term for all service trucks but it would appear to be not so. Austins, Bedfords etc are frequently mentioned, the TCV's appear to be something else.

So what are they? Who made them? What did they look like (photos)? Are there any still left?

    Cheers

  2. Hi Rick,

I've already tried Bovington, that where I got the copy of the original Government order.

No joy at the Vauxhall works either.

I know some people collect photo's and info and was hopi ng I might get lucky.

    Cheers,

    Pete

  3. I'm not a vehicle owner, I just have an interest in them.

The nearest I have is WW2 Phillips British Heavy Infantry bicycle, but I don't think that really counts!

I'd love to own a British vehicle one day, but finances at the moment preclude that, as do the instructions of the "long haired" general!!

My main area of interest is WW2 North Africa, Italy and North West Europe.

  4. Hi,

    My first post on here.

I have a brass plate from a Churchill IV tank. It has the following info on it and is covered in what looks like sand coloured paint.

    Churchill IV

    Makers No VM4074

    WD No T31550R

    Date ----42

I know the tank was built at the Vauxhall works and somewhere have a copy of the original order from the Government for a batch of 1500 tanks.

Does anyone have any further info about the individual tank or,highly unlikely I know, any photo's please?

    Many thanks.
