Yes I do have a Muir hill Mc3 A5000 with Massey Ferguson back actor, i will post some pics, and it`s for sale:shocked:

I did a lot of repair work on these when they were in service with the Army. I thought the later Mark did not have the crab steer facility, but memory might be playing tricks. Just found some course notes on the Muir Hill, dating back to 1980 ... where has time gone?

 

Steering irregularities caused by worn or faulty change over valve are :-

1. Rear wheels will not stay in the straight ahead position when two wheel steer is selected.

2. Rear wheels do not steer to full left or right lock when four wheel steer is selected.

 

To me the changeover valve has to be at the root of the problem. Just looked at your post again, you mention 3 change over valves, I thought this was one unit. I can now recollect there were two types of valve set up dependant on the Mark.

 

Ah, just thought of something else, if rams have been removed then perhaps wheel alignment has been upset (toe in).

Many thanks for your reply, the steering is heavy and the rear wheels go out of line with the fronts and the machine crab steers, there is no adjustment to the rams they are set, when two wheel steer is selected its fine it steers in a straight line.

I have replaced all three of the change over valves which are located under the drivers floor

Would you consider the orbital steering box, or the steering hydo pump be at fault, low pressure etc?

Do you know were I may obtain a work shop manual, or a drawing of the hydraulic steering system?

Hi, I have a problem with a Muirhill A5000 Mk 3 Loader, the steering will not follow and starts to crab steer, I have replaced the ram seals and the three change over valves, can anyone point at something that may cause this problem?
