  1. AFAIK Mainly Royal Marine Issue during the 60s and 70s..and still around in the early 80s..

I have the same that was issued to my old man in late 82 when he was in the Falklands..I think they were taken down from store to the south atlantic. Some pics of the conflict show them too - particularly being used by Journalists

Based on the Cresta Rucksack from the 50s..

  2. My Old Man did a couple of tours in the province in the 70s and kept a pair of NI boots for his BFTs.

When I was doing basic in the late 80s I had a problem with the BCH - I couldn't get a pair in the wide fitting so was getting crippled by them - he gave me the NI boots to try. Soles disintegrated on the first go round the assault course..so that was a disaster...i remember them being unbelievably light compared to either BCH or DMS boots (even more so with half the sole missing)

  3. Hi,

Being an ignorant bugger I missed the big about making your first post an intro..so apologies for that..

I have an interest in military history and the odds and sods associated with that.

Some very knowledgable folk on here and I've enjoyed reading some very informative threads..

Having grown up as a padbrat through the 70s and 80s and then spent a bit of time as a STAB some of the threads are like memory jolts..

Look forward to dipping in and out.

    Iain
