Hi Lynn, not sold as yet, still have both matadors,i have djs 965d still in my workshop, cab wood, and floor are done, rear springs sorted along with various bits, was side tracked by a mk1 militant (got it for the crane)which you can see on my facebook:s.b.engineering services ltd. on its maiden run to my local fair.still slowly progressing but thought the other one might go to someone to restore, which is undercover and untouched since i got her.work keeps getting in the way of fun tho!.cheers scott.

  4. Any progress on this? Good to see more saved, hoping to have mine back together in a few months.

Hi Nick, just fitting second roof skin to the Matador so that can be painted,Milly is turned round now so I can sort the other leg(rams from Ramco)and paint the cab ,weather permitting, so may be a while!.Look forward to seeing progress on yours too.Scott.

  5. Box now out the pit, in the photo of the open topped box we've found the gear for 4/5th just spins with no drive transmitted when the selector drum slides onto it, unlike the rest of the gears. In the photo, these are the smaller gears inbetween the two larger ones on the right. Spigot shaft is to be removed next to hopefully see why this is. A spare box has been found, if required, & complete with transmission box for £600.

Hi Nick saw this box on ebay ,if correct might save you a few quid. milly gearbox ebay no:272417423558.scott

  6. Front wheels arch's have been well nibbled by the maggots & few shots from under the cab.

Thanks for posting the pics Ian, your Tilly is looking great, they remind me I have got a few things done! The militant project has slowed my progress on the Matador, but it lives outside and the crane is a bonus for all the heavy parts plus couldnt resist another Aec.Hope to get more painted before winter and start sorting electrics etc.Scott.

  7. Hi Neil, watching your restoration with great interest you are doing a great job,I have a similar problem with my Mk 1 militant fitted with an atlas crane, just removed the roof panel which as one piece round the cupola, mine doesnt have the mg ring mounts tho, but had gone at all the edges and i intend to rivet back a slightly oversize panel and weld back the retaining ring round the cupola.I will have to do a windscreen too as drivers side is broken, gotta find out where all the electrics go to as not sure, and nothing works!best with your restoration.scott

Aaaand - grounded a;; day.... Got up this morning to find the left arm basically non-op bue to bruising etc so I couldn't drive - not even the auto Rangie :(

Means washing the old girl off will have to wait till next week now. I can get hold of some red oxide paint though so that any fresh metal and anything rubbed down can be given a protective coat. Think I might follow Robs advice and get the necessities sorted out - horn not working , wipers etc and give her a coat of satin green to tidy up then take her to a few days out/shows and see how she runs/get a feel for her ways.

  8. Hi all, selling my Aec Matador to help fund my other matador restoration currently in progress. 1943, 0853 4824,wartime contract V4759 running chassis cab, needing complete restoration, low speed diffs, was used as a tow truck and not registered at moment.picture shows it when it came to my workshop, and has been stored undercover since.

    Offers.Thanks Scott call to view.01993882215 daytime 01993881805 eves.N.oxford area.

  9. contract S3039 IS DATED 10/43 FOR 500 vehicles at that time AEC were making 50 MATADORs a month the only thing you will get from the RLC no 2 key card is when it was sold and where there is no military history as to who and were these vehicles served the only other thing missing is its war time census number which was H 5469826

Thanks Wally, wasnt sure what would be on the card for the money,I have a good date now and the census number for when i eventually get to paint the cab. Thanks Scott.

  10. Hi Scott,

That chassis was from contract S3039 (0853-6603 to 0853-7102) for Heavy A.A tractors.

As 16svt rightly says, it will be a 1944 build.

I have chassis 0853-6767 from that same contract.

You should be able to obtain a copy of the AEC factory build sheet from the Commercial Vehicle museum at Leyland which should provide the build date and delivery date and the place it was delivered to.

Hope this helps a bit, Mel

Thanks Mel, its nice to know theres a few left from the same contract ,be a while before i finish tho ,more pics soon.scott

  11. Hi all,I am trying to find out a bit more history of the aec matador I am restoring, chassis number o853 6828,army reg 18YZ54,then 11RD91.if any one can shed any light on its history would be greatly appreciated.thanks scott.

  12. Scott, What a difference, She's looking great. You are doing a brilliant job and I am so pleased to see her coming on so well. I can't wait till she's ready for the road. Your'e going to love driving her. Thank you for bringing her back to life. She so deserves another chance.

    Lynn :)

Thanks Lynn, its a slow process but it is moving,I have just cut timber for nearside corner, then I will feel the cab is more than 50% done!I have also just reworked a new air tank, which was rusted thru, normal work just keeps getting in the way.

  13. Great work. I don't suppose you have drawings of the cab components?

My radiators have cast iron top and bottom tanks so have not suffered in the same way. Your core looks to be in very good condition so it is a case of either finding replacement tanks or getting new ones cast using the oldies as patterns (allowing for shinkage).

Hi mammoth, sorry no drawings, making parts using originals as patterns (and a little guess work).thanks scott

  14. Hiya,

Just wondered how the restoration was going. Any more pics yet.

    Lynn:-)

Hi Lynn,I will endeavour to get some more pics on,works been tough the last 6 months but I have most of the back end painted and ready to assemble, the back of the cab is back on and I am currently making a new floor prior to doing the wood round the drivers door,so progress but slow.hope you are well, all the best scott.
