PS love your photo in the MVT Calendar....

  2. Well in my humble opinion, Id take the screen out.

Trying to work over the bonnet is going to one big Bar stool..

I cant agree with Gas44 re the fitting being that easy ..( sorry) All my rubbers have been MV spares, regarded in the jeep world as a top quality products ..the Jimmy/Dodge and Jeep inner windscreen are identical Extrusions..

the Frame will need to be spotless within the grove ..Lubrication is king ...

Just a thought, hows the rest of your inner frame ??? new fully glazed and rubberd frames are only ...Sorry i say only ...£245...these are for Dodges so are about 1/4 of an inch shorter..

My frame looked oki'sh until i removed it and it well "Fell apart":-X

  3. Easier to take the windscreen out ..lots of washing up liquid and a swear box. !!!

having done a few jeep windscreens this can be a ......a....... Annoying task.

Try to getting the inner channel as clean as possible so that the preformed rubber will slide up the channel its a jiggle to get the rubber wet enough to slide and still get enough grip on the rubber so that you can pull it .

    .HAVE FUN.

  4. Just been told that I programme I was involved in ( shot the reconstruction footage ) is on the yesterday channel tonight ..

    10 PM or 11 PM on the 1 hour + channel ..

Don't worry if you don't catch it this time it's the YESTERDAY channel, it will be shown forever and a day, I know I keep seeing Narrow Escapes of WW2 pop up every few months for another outing .

  5. I have a friend ....(yes just the one but that's all you need in life ..!!!)... He works within a large military library / research centre .... Let's say he's not convinced about spitfires in crates, and went through a huge list of reasons why he thinks this is a Wilde goose chase ..unfortunately I can say no more or he'd have to kill me .....and I'm having none of that...;).

  6. Gas44... Reminiscent of Tony Sudds .... ;)

Have phoned Rex on a few occasions for help and advice ....ultra helpful ..

popped into his workshop a couple of times to buy stuff and he has been very welcoming..

I think that the difference I's that he's not just a TRADER selling stuff he's also a mechanic ex Reme if I understand

He repairs and restores vehicles ...

He is probably a little different to the jeep world with several Co's Viking for our business, Rex is the only GMC spares

person in the UK that I know of but has treated me as valued customer who could buy my bits elsewhere ..

A good customer is a repeat customer ...

    Ken.

  7. Im no expert ...but probably most of the damage will be on the bottom end, so as long as your crank is within tolerance

you should be able to save it with a re-grinde @ £125 ish from a Engine rebuilders

new shells another £60 plus ( funnily enough i have just bought these from Cliff Harris ... just cant find the bill ...)

you should not have much problem with the pistons but given the fact that the engine is all apart a full inspection/ rebuild seems sensible .....

If you have everything to hand and have had all the major remedial work done, Crank ground ...Nuts bolts , shims , Piston rings , Shells etc etc a good day should have the engine re built ....

You can save yourself a lot of money by buying the bit yourself ...Going from experience.

Question Why did you lose oil pressure ....Clogged oil-ways ....Faulty oil pump ....

if you have to ship the engine to someone like Dallas youll need to add Shipping to the Cost ...oh and VAT ...

  8. Well I had a Moan about a Foreign dealer who screwed me over for postage on a small packet the other week ...this is how it should be done.

Phone REX Mr GMC for a Nut and bolt ...yes that right , one nut and bolt ..:nut:.. he popped them in the post for me

( I have bought several things from him in the past ) .....

    CHARGE .....£0.00...

    Big ThanXXX to REX

  9. Iv been asked if i can find a small flying egg type helicopter for a low budget film shoot for the YESTERDAY channel ...

Iv shot several reconstructions for "NARROW ESCAPES OF WW2" plus "BLACK OPPS" for the history Channel etc

the Director who is a old friend on mine is in need of a small UK (England) based helicopter ( Non Flying - main Body only if thats what you have ) to create the backdrop for a SAS type raid ...

Drop me a PM if you think that you may be able to help .

  10. A few years ago I had the builders in putting in a base for my garage , my jeep was sitting under a tarp, one of them asked to see what was under the tarp ..." oh my god its a jeep he said ..I remember burying 3 of them in a big ditch in Korea when the North koreans where getting a bit to close .." he said this was common practice ...

So lets go digging along the 57th parallel....

  11. Aghhhhhhh... Sorry if this is the wrong place but I'm slightly aggrieved ....( cant type what i would like to for fear of being banned from the forum)...

Ok ...Lets start from the beginning .....

I was on the hunt for some bits for a MV restro ...UK sellers out of stock so contacted several European sellers and found one that had what i needed ...Price OK ish but postage was just "P" taking ...

Aha ..Stonleigh was just around the corner so a great opportunity to find the bits, and as i thought one of our European trades had just what i needed but he would have to post it to me ..great he quoted about 10 -12 euro per packet and about 8 euros postage ..so 2x12 + 8 = 28 to 32 Euros , anyway after some Email tennis the price is now 42Euros :-X..size and weight of packet being the issue ..

I bit the bullet and pay .... any way the packet ( a £1.30 jiffy bag from the post office ) turns up today with 3 euros worth of stamps stuck on it ...:stop::???...

Do I feel that Im being Stiffed or what ...

Sorry ...Just had to have a Rant about the way some dealers use postage and packing as a way of grabbing more money from us ..

  12. Firstly thanXX for the link re the Kingpins ..

If you haven't tried REX Im putting in an order with Jaap Ripvelt (? SP) for some bits and may be able to help

by having stuff shipped together if he has what you need ..

    PM me .

    ken.

  13. Hi Gas44... Yeh replaced the Kingpin Bearings ...

Told the French supplier in a return Email that his charge was completely outrageous ..

After a play with the shims that I have ..I will ( unless i can find a supplier who doesn't take the postage "P") buy some shim materials of Flea Bay for just a few pounds and make my own ..;)..

    ken.
