  1. Not my first instinct, though the wagon looks new, sharp edges etc. I was surprised even to see track guards: not robust enough in service + no spares = never seen them. In which case 3/75 might well be the right time frame but more by fluke than intention imho.

I see that the Cheiftain has similer markings on the front Mud Flap - so I assume it could be around that time - The Scorp looks new, and as you say, its in very good nik, don't think that wading screen has seen the light of day.

    Cheers.

  2. I too think it's Bovvy (no particular feeling other than gut) and someone is being escorted out of the post in traditional fashion.

The last pic, the guy with back to camera reminds me awfully of my first squadron leader (major, 15/19H, 1976-78ish) who went on to command the regiment in the 80s, but it certainly doesn't look like him sat on top of the Chieftain. His PerSec precludes me from naming him.

But I cannot be 100% sure. Not a lot of help sorry.

    Hi

Many Thanks for the Info - Any Idea what the Stenciled Info on the front Track Guard of the Scorpion means - Does that relate to March 1975 ?.

    Cheers.

  3. Hi All

Picked these Photo's up off E..y some time back - Just wondered if anyone knows who, Where and When ?? - I think that it is Bovvy, and that the officer is retiring from the Army - No Info on the back of the pics at all - Maybe someone here knows the story - So over to you.

    Cheers.

  4. I am sure I remember seeing 10FD72 a few times at the Duxford Military vehicle shows in the 90s (have a few pics somewhere)- it was for sale I believe at the time and as Chris mentions, it went to Jersey.

    Cheers.

  5.

Good news Neil - Look foward to seeing the pic's.

How are you intending to move it around to show's etc - Are you able to tow it on a trailer behind the Stolly, or is it a low loader job only.

    Cheers.

  6. I didn't think it was quite as official as for them to publicise it in the paper, but yes, it probably won't be at that site again. We are currently looking at other possible sites in the area. Any suggestions welcome...

Were you there this year then?

Yes was there on the Saturday with the Family - Have been to all but a couple of shows over the last 20 yrs - hope it continues.

Off to "Tanks in Town" in Mons tommorow (Fri) - Will report on my return.

    Cheers.

  7. Don't forget the woman who was sat on top of an Abbot much like Mark, going down a track much like Mark was. The vehicle went on to soft ground at the side of the road, went over on its side. The woman was flug off the vehicle, which then landed on top of her. Not good when the guy driving had only married her a few days before. Don't sit on the outside of an AFV driving along unless you're strapped on, and even then you're better off inside.

Chris - I remember that one as well - Nasty Buisness.

Have Fun - But Be Safe !!.

  8. Did one turn over at Beltring?

Haven't heard about that one and'we've been going there since 2000.

    Hopefully noone got hurt.

Yes an Abbott did turn over at Beltring - Onto its side - I was there (As were many other people), I have a video of it happening, given to me by someone who filmed it - It went onto its side on the off road course - And all onboard were very lucky to walk away.

If I remember correctly, the driver was covered in oil.

Thinking about the date, It was possibly before 2000 - Will try to dig out the tape and see if it has a date on.

    Bob.

  9. Sitting on the gun on the road isn't really a good idea!

I quite agree Chris - Much safer in the Turret - Just ask the guys who were in the one that turned over at Beltring a few years back !!.

Mind you - you need bloody quick reactions !!.

    Cheers.

  10. Not much use at the side of the road though!

Chris - Yes it is - You drive home on your Runflat ... Collect Lifting Apparatus... Return to original position.... Change Wheel or Wheels !! - Take Lifting gear home !!! - Simple ????? - I Think ?????.

Or - You could make a rack and carry it around with you - Even Simpler !!.

  11. I registered our 432 as

    Body Type: Special Mobile Unit

    Wheelplan: tracks

I filled out the form, they gave me a tax disc. The tax class is Historic and there shouldn't be a question about that. Nobody asked about the steering/braking system, everyone says it's supposedly illegal yet nobody has proof. As long as you've got the blue from 645 you should be ok. That form in essence says the vehicle was used on the road by the MoD, if they can use it on the road then so can you.

Honestly the number of people who have trouble registering vehicles, or pass on rumours about not being able to register this or that is rediculous. The best way to do it is to assemble all the documents you need, fill in a V55 and then go to the local DVLA office. Give the person on the counter as little information as possible. I'm sure pitching up with a photo of a tank and saying 'register this' causes far more problems than handing over a completed form and letting them get on with it.

If anyone wants to pay me I will gladly start a vehicle registration service!

You are the one of the most helpful and knowledgeable blokes i know when it comes to Armoured Vehicles - so you may as well start the Registration service ASAP - You have my vote.

    Cheers.
